Sometimes we can lack one or two essential fashion items from our wardrobe. If you’re trying to get together a good collection without spending too much money, start taking notes of which clothing items and accessories you should have in your closet to achieve any style under the sun. Once your wardrobe is complete, you’ll no longer have to worry about not having anything to wear.

An all-purpose suit: For women who don’t work in an office environment, you may not have many suits in your wardrobe (if you have any at all!). You don’t have to invest in a power suit. Instead, find a suit that not only fits you to a tee but works no matter what the occasion is. Search your closet and see if there are any outdated suits that you do own but haven’t worn in a long time. Donate it to charity, since it’s more than likely you won’t want to wear it again. Head to the store and start looking for a pant suit that looks good for an evening out, a job interview or a meeting. Darker colors tend to look more conservative. Also try to find a style that can easily be matched with a skirt if you want to switch things up.

A pair of jeans that fit you really well: By now you know just how cool the right pair of jeans can work any outfit. From hanging out at the house or running errands, to glamming it up for a night out on the town, having a good pair for jeans that fit you super well can be just the item you need. While there is nothing wrong with having more than one good pair, even just one ideal pair of dark denim jeans can take your wardrobe a long way.

A stylish overcoat: It doesn’t matter if you live in the city or the suburbs, you’ll want a good looking overcoat handy in your closet in the event of a trip to cooler climates or to keep stylishly warm on a cold winter night out. Cashmere or wool overcoats with comfortable lining are ideal for weekdays as well as special weekend outings.

A cool leather jacket: You don’t have to be a biker chick to don a sleek and sexy leather jacket. Like jeans, leather jackets are quickly becoming more acceptable for wear to the office or while out and about during the day. Not all leather jackets are expensive, however, so if you don’t want to fake it, search online for quality leather jackets at affordable prices.

A nice white shirt: You’d be surprised how a white shirt can set off an outfit when you need it. The right-fitting white button-up shirt can work well inside of a business suit, paired up with your well-fitting jeans or a skirt. But the key to the white shirt you should have in your closet is that it should be crisp, clean and actually white. Go through your wardrobe and if you find any white shirts that are dingy, stained or not even white anymore, donate them to charity and invest in a new one.
