When entering the Anantara Hotel from the small road that traces the northern coastline of Koh Samui, you could immediately sense that this was going to be a special experience. The small bridge that serves as the hotel’s gate leads into a resort that has all the small details and amenities to provide its guests a unique feeling that they have entered a tropical paradise.
The hotel itself is designed with a distinctive combination of traditional Thai cultural aspects and modern hotel facilities.
The hotel’s lobby leads into a beautiful tropical garden that serves as an alley towards the sizable pool, which has a breathtaking view above the private hotel beach.
But the real pearl of the hotel is the stunning Spa which we were escorted to through another of the hotel’s many garden walkways.
The Anantara Spa and its facilities can be described in one word – immaculate.
Every inch of the Spa was thought of with the highest standard of design, providing an overall visual experience that cannot be forgotten. The reception is surrounded by water dotted by floating candles and flowers,
and after refreshing with a warm facial towel, we were asked to fill out a form to provide some personal information, stressing important issues like what areas in our body needed special attention. After a short wait, we were taken to the treatment rooms, which were more like private temples or sanctuaries in the center of another tropical garden.
My treatment included three phases, all following a quick change from clothes to the Spa’s dress code – disposable underpants and a bath robe. My personal and may I add beautiful therapist, Gip, escorted me to the outer section of this private temple, where I entered a bath that seemed to be naturally part of the external landscape, surrounded by trees, flowers, and soothing music. The warm water that was upgraded with XXX oils and dozens of rose pedals, allowing me to reach a level of relaxation I rarely experience, and after 30 minutes I was slowly led to a shower under the beautiful trees in the garden.
The second phase of my treatment was a 20 minute foot massage, using rose water and a gentle touch, putting me in a position where my mind was confused by the memory of the soothing bath, enjoying the current sensation, and anticipating the 90 minute traditional Thai Massage that was only moments away. And my anticipation was well justified, because the massage that followed had the perfect combination of the mild touch needed to be tranquil during the treatment and the strong and firm handling required to convey the real significance of a Thai massage.
After nearly three hours of relaxation and treatments, I left the Spa with the conclusion that the planners of Anantara Spa were able to obtain a matchless combination of external beauty and professional excellence, or in other words – the immaculate Spa.
