To start, the aging process makes our hand’s skin looking thinner over time. No fat is under, which allows us to see veins very clearly. The absence of fat causes our skin to become dry and loose, which exposes the veins more. In addition, age spots and sunspots begin to appear causing even more strife. The only way to prevent aged looking hands is by making efforts to protect them in the first place. Ways to do so involve limiting exposure to the sun and limiting our hand’s immersion into water. In addition, there is the choice of using bleaching creams prescribed by dermatologists. Dark pigmented spots pop up like clockwork on aging hands and these creams help to reduce the discoloration.
Sometimes, dermatologist-prescribed creams take months to work. An alternative solution is using chemical peels like TCA and glycolic acid peels which help to get rid of dead skin cells and expedite the production of new cells. These peels are usually concentrated on the parts of the body where the sun hits the most, which include the hands. For extreme cases, discoloration of the hands due to aging can also be corrected by using laser treatments to change the hands skin color. These are speedy operations that take no more than 10 minutes at your skin doctor’s office. Lastly, fat transplantation procedures can take place to add fat to thin, aging hands.
Visits to the dermatologist, chemical peels, bleaching creams, and more can all be offset by taking care of your hands. Applying hand cream once or twice a week is not enough. Instead, exfoliate followed by a warm soak and dabs of oil should be applied one a week, providing your hands with a spa-like treatment. In the summer, SPF creams should be applied to protect against the sun. In essence, making sure your hands don’t give your age away involves a little tender, love, and care as described above.
