The obvious benefit of working out in your own home is that you can choose your schedule, save money in your pocket, and not have to worry about the presence of others. On the flip side, a challenge to staying fit in your home includes losing motivation, procrastinating and not having enough knowledge to put together your own fitness regimen. But these are issues that can be easily solved as long as you put forth the work, time and dedication.
Let’s say you don’t have any type of fitness equipment and/or you don’t have the money needed to buy even the simplest stuff needed for your workout. That isn’t a problem! You’ll just need to adjust your exercise regimen in order to work with what you do have. You can get a simple cardio workout by doing the following: jogging, walking, running, swimming (if you have a pool), skipping and even climbing your stairs. As mundane as this may seem, these are all great forms of exercise you can do at home. Start off slow and try these exercises for at least twenty minutes. Along with cardio exercises, there are also resistance training exercises that don’t need the gym or equipment. For a good workout, try these exercises for resistance training: curls, crunches, lunges, squats, and push-ups. There are also more diverse types of resistance training you can look up online. If you aren’t sure how to do certain exercises, research them online first and make sure you’re doing it right instead of attempting it on your own.
As your body gets used to the routine, you can choose the ideal days and times you’ll be able to exercise.
However, if you’re interested in investing in a few workout tools/equipment, just know that you don’t need to splurge on a collection of items. The most basic workout equipment you’ll need for an effective home-based gym is an exercise ball and resistance bands. You can also include DVDs or CDs that provide instructions on how to perform specific exercises with these tools. You’d be amazed how you can diversify your fitness regimen at home with these two items. The exercise ball and resistance bands are ideal for resistance training. Free weights are also another useful piece of exercise equipment to have. Most are fairly affordable or you can substitute actual free weights for household items like cans of food or other items that carry solid weight.
As you can see, it doesn’t take much to create your own home gym. Plan your fitness goals and cater your home gym according to your needs. You’ll find more freedom and flexibility to stay fit by following your own rules.
