Myths Surrounding the Best Exercises for Women

Myths Surrounding the Best Exercises for WomenIt’s no secret that men and women are different in many ways. From their approach to relationships to their outlook on life and even what they eat, the battle of the sexes has raged on since the beginning of time. So how do men and women differ when it comes to fitness and exercise? There are many myths and false misconceptions about women and exercise that need to be clarified. If you want to find out what is true and what is false about this subject, the answers can help you greatly the next time you step foot into the gym for your workout.

Just as lack of knowledge about working out can negatively affect your health and your approach to staying physically fit, not being aware of the misconceptions about fitness can also pose problems for your fitness goals. The first thing to make note of is the fact that many women have different fitness goals in mind, compared to their male counterparts. Most times women are seeking physical exercise as a way to burn calories, boost their metabolism and tone their bodies. Men also have some or all of these goals in mind but they are more than likely to hit the gym to also bulk up a lot of muscle.

One myth that tends to float around many gyms is that women should not participate in the same exercises that men typically do. In this instance it does not matter what gender you are - choose the exercise that best suits your fitness goals. People that fall for this myth believe that the only exercises women should do are those that involve toning and lightweight reps, compared to the more hardcore exercises men follow. There is nothing wrong with a woman that wants to do exercises that work large muscle groups. The bench press, for example, is one that can be done by both sexes with no problems. Such exercises are ideal if you want to tackle more than one muscle group. However, if you want to stick to isolation exercises, then the bench press and similar acts will probably not be a part of your workout routine.

Another common myth is the belief that women shouldn’t exercise too much using heavy weights and fewer reps because it will cause them to become bulky, very muscular and less than feminine. This myth alone often scares women away from pursuing a more hardcore workout routine. The truth is that women can attempt to incorporate heavy weights with fewer reps as long as they choose the right rep range for their fitness goals. If you are not constantly pushing the repetitions with the heavy weights on a regular basis, you won’t bulk up.
