Don’t be so hard on yourself:
We are our own worst critics. This is especially true when it comes to our physical fitness and appearance. Sometimes we tend to get carried away by what everyone else is doing and the results others are experiencing. The best thing you can do for yourself is to be realistic about your fitness goals and your workout. Set limitations and don’t overexert yourself or be too harsh if you aren’t seeing results right away. Take the competition factor out of the equation and work on yourself the way you need to, not because someone else is beating you to the punch.
Stretch!
The best way to improve any workout, no matter what area of your body you’re focusing on or what your exercise routine consists of, stretching will always keep you in the best shape possible. As healthy as it is for us to exercise, doing it improperly can do more harm than good. Stretching your muscles will prevent injuries and strain. Always start off slow with your stretches and spend about several minutes doing this before starting on your regular workout.
Partner up:
Nothing helps you stay motivated than working out with someone else. Whether it’s your best friend, significant other or someone you’ve met at the gym, doing the buddy system helps keep you energized and will definitely improve the quality of your workout.
Pay attention to your body:
If your muscles are screaming in agony during your workout, take a break instead of pushing on. Overexerting yourself during exercise will only lead to sore and strained muscles. Even if you’ve been doing the same routine for weeks or months, there will be times when your body will send off signs that it needs rest. Give in and if needed, take a breather from your workout routine for a few days.
Limit your supplements:
There’s nothing wrong with taking supplements but you should be wary of how you use them and how often. Sometimes the very things you want to target using supplements can be taken care of through your daily diet. Use supplements in moderation and be sure to educate yourself about what you’re taking, as well as if there are any side effects involved.
Eat well:
Nothing can set back a good workout routine like a poor diet. Avoid defeating the purpose of your workouts by being sure to include at least five fruits and vegetables a day in your diet. What you consume will show in the performance of your body during your workout. Also be sure to drink plenty of water or sports drinks to keep yourself from becoming dehydrated.
