Pick Your Poison: Exfoliating Tools

Pick Your Poison: Exfoliating ToolsExfoliating has become a concept that is more widely known, compared to recent years. Thanks to the Internet and society’s obsession with aging better, more and more people are aware of the benefits that come with exfoliating. However, this practice isn’t just limited to the complexion. It is equally important to exfoliate the body in order to encourage new skin cell growth. But with all the exfoliating tools available in the store, it can be difficult to figure out which is right for you.

How many times have you stood in sheer confusion when looking at the product selection of exfoliating tools in the beauty/bath aisle at the store? There are so many that it is easy for people to become overwhelmed. Unless you’re already a skincare and beauty guru, you more than likely will need assistance with choosing the right product for your skin. Below are some of the most commonly used exfoliating tools for the body, as well as suggestions for which skin types/uses each one is ideal for.

Body Brush with Handle

The exfoliating body brush with a long handle is among the most commonly found tools in this category. What makes this item so ideal in the shower or bath is the fact that the long handle allows a person to easily exfoliate the back, buttocks, legs and feet. There are various versions of this tool, mainly when it comes to the type of exfoliating material attached to the end of the brush. There are soft loofahs, brushes with stiff bristles and sponges. If you want a thorough exfoliation of your back and tend to accumulate a lot of dead skin easily, you’ll want to opt for a body brush with stiff bristles. This is ideal for individuals that tend to sweat a lot due to intense activities, such as exercising or playing sports regularly. However, make sure you don’t scratch your skin by exfoliating too vigorously with this tool. For a gentler exfoliation, sensitive skin types should use a body brush with a sponge or loofah attachment, which still effectively sloughs off layers of dead skin but won’t cause irritation.

Gloves

Exfoliating gloves are great for gently removing dead skin from all areas of the body. Applying body wash to the gloves allows a person to create a lather and scrub down their body, much in the same way they would if they were using hand soap. This exfoliating tool is ideal for individuals that want to get rid of dead skin layers on their elbows, hands, neck, legs and feet. The material for exfoliating gloves typically are gentle enough for all skin types, including sensitive skin, but strong enough to effectively smooth rough skin.

Towel

Exfoliating towels are among the newest versions of products in this category. This specially designed tool is made of material that provides great exfoliation for the entire body. Because they are larger in size than traditional washcloths, this makes it easy to scrub the back, buttocks and other hard to reach areas in a more flexible way, which gives it an advantage over traditional body brushes. Additionally, the material lathers quickly, which means it doesn’t require a lot of body wash. Simply rinse afterwards and hang dry after each use. Exfoliating towels are great for all skin types and is especially useful to people experiencing issues like back acne and other skincare problems in that area.
