Quan Spa at the Renaissance Koh Samui Resort & Spa by Nathalie & Yariv

Quan ReceptionOn a privately secluded quiet bay in Laem Nam Beach lies the Renaissance Koh Samui Resort & Spa. "Quan Spa", the spa`s given name, is the place for those seeking to relax and experience the traditional Eastern Treatments.

Quan means "Water". Water is associated with healing benefits in most cultures and has relaxing benefits on both our body and mind. Quan Spa has dedicated a full spacious water experience uniquely found at the Renaissance. The "Water Experience" is like an `assembly line`, where you are taken from one position to another on a journey that serves as the perfect preparation before the massage treatment. It has 4 different water-based facilities: a shower, steam sauna, a beautifully decorated cold water stone bath and a hot water Jacuzzi. This 30 minutes water session relaxes your body and prepares you for the treatment to follow.

While we are waiting for your Massage Therapist to accompany you to the we were served with the most wonderful Lemon Grass drink that my mind keeps dreaming of from time to time, it has a refreshing taste and cannot be found elsewhere on the island. Later I found out that they call it "happiness in a glass", I can`t agree more!

Quan Spa gave special thought when selecting the oils used in the various treatments. Two uniquely formulated blends of oils, "De-stress" and "Inspire", are used in different times of the day. If your treatment is scheduled during the day, the "Inspire" blend will be used (made of Lemon, Rosewood, Rosemary, Ginger, Sweet Almond and other uplifting scents). If your treatment is an evening treatment (past 17:00), the "De-stress" blend will be used (made of Lavender, bergamot, Mandarin, Chamomile, vitamin E and other relaxing scents), preparing you for a good night sleep.

The two therapists came to collect us from the water experience to the massage room. I wasn`t told anything about where to leave my bag and clothes and ended up carrying my clothes, shoes and bag i along with me to the treatment room dressed in a bath robe, half dizzy by the Jacuzzi`s high water temperature. A locker or an eye to watch over my belongings would have been better… On the way to the treatment rooms you pass though water fountains, highly maintained flowering garden and huge massive sandstone gates. Two of the treatment rooms were built by 4 transparent glass walls and are located closest to the water shore so the water motive remains all throughout the treatment.

Quan Spa Treatment RoomThe Qi Fusion Massage we experienced is said to relinquish stress and tension. Using techniques adapted from Th ai and Swedish massage methods, this medium to strong massage aims to ease muscle tension and improve the movement of Qi energy in the body which will promote a feeling of balance, calm and wellness. The music stopped half way through the 60 minutes Qi Fusion Massage but even that didn`t disturb me from slipping into a deeply relaxed state of slower Alpha type brain waves….
