In case you aren’t sure what a day spa is, this type of business employ specialists to perform a variety of treatments such as full body massage, body wraps, facials, tanning, manicures, pedicures, and skincare treatments. Established day spas often hire aestheticians, who are professionals trained in skincare and various practices. However, it is important to note that aestheticians are not medically trained. Many people frequent day spas for a quick pampering and can be found virtually anywhere.
The main factor that distinguishes a medi-spa from a day spa is the fact that medi-spas have a staff of medically trained professionals, including nurses, dermatologists, cosmetic dentists, medical assistants and even cosmetic surgeons. Medical spas also have aestheticians, massage therapists and other similar professionals. Like day spas, medi-spas also offer pampering services such as massages and facials but also specialize in cosmetic procedures like chemical peels, laser hair removal, Botox, facelifts, teeth whitening, varicose vein removal and a score of other common cosmetic treatments.
When it comes to getting a cosmetic procedure done, most people visit a doctor’s office but medi-spas give patients the option of having a combination of a medical clinic and a day spa environment to relax in while being treated. If you’re toying with the idea of attending a medi-spa it is best to know what services you would like to have performed and if it is a realistic approach for you. Once you identify what issue needs to be addressed, then you can begin looking at local medical spas for consideration.
Just as you would do research to find the right day spa, the same should be done when searching for the ideal medi-spa. While certain regulations vary from state to state, in order for a medical spa to be legit, it must be supervised by an actual medical doctor. In general, the medical doctor oversees the operation of the medi-spa and makes sure things are running smoothly and according to regulations. If you know anyone who has visited a medical spa, get their feedback about their experience and ask if there is anyone specifically at the medi-spa they would recommend. Take time to visit the medi-spa yourself and ask questions. Find out if they are using the latest, up-to-date equipment. Chances are if they are using the latest technology, you’ll get better results with little recovery time and discomfort. Make sure the person you end up choosing is properly licensed and ask for patient references as well as before and after pictures.
The Internet makes it easier than ever to find out if a medical spa has a good reputation and a list of happy customers so be sure to use it.
