Bangs for Fall

Bangs for FallBangs never really went away, but they sure are everywhere this season. And it’s no wonder; bangs can utterly transform your image with just a few snips of very sharp, straight scissors. If you’re feeling like you need a little spice in your do, here are all the things you need to know to choose just the right bangs for your hair – even if you’re cutting them yourself.

Cleopatra was on to something when she showed up with blunt cut bangs. Our money is on the fact that, despite genetics, she had fine hair and wanted to give the perfect illusion of thickness. The fringe that blunt bangs provide if perfect for fine or thin hair because the look is flattering even when there’s not much hair to support it. It’s also easy to create a fuller effect with a glossing gel that reflects light to add even more dimension.

The messy bangs are universal and look great on everyone. This below-the-eyebrow cut looks especially great on women with thicker hair that can be “styled.” And by styled we mean blow dry your hair but leave your bangs slightly damp, apply styling spray and piece small chunks together with your fingers. Give your bangs a blast of cool air too further set the spray and accentuate the messy look.

Bangs with an edge (or an angle) are sleek and sexy on those with fine to medium hair. They are also very versatile. You can smooth them over for a sophisticated look or tousle them for a more fun style. This cut looks best on faces that are not too round. It’s also perfect for short or long hair.

Whichever cut fits your face best, bangs are hassle-free and can give you a whole new look without sacrificing any length. They are also versatile – pin them back and viola you’re back to all one length – and will always grow back in.

While experts agree that you want to have a professional cut your bangs the first time, there’s no reason you can’t get good and creative with the upkeep. To trim your bangs, wash and dry your hair and comb bangs straight down or slightly to the angle that you normally wear them. Don’t trim wet bangs or you may end up with a much shorter cut than you intended. Hold your sharp, small scissors vertically and slightly angled to your bangs. Starting in the center cut 1/8” into the hair and continue to do so, moving toward one ear and then the other. Take a look and determine if you need to take off more.

Bangs can give you a makeover just like a whole new palate of makeup, so experiment, have fun and enjoy! You’ll be a whole new you this season.
