You may be surprised to know that there is more than one type of conditioner on store shelves. Because of the demand for the best ingredients and formulas, you can now find conditioners in different versions that do more than just provide hydration and nourishment to your hair. If you aren’t sure which type of conditioner will work best for your tresses, you could be missing out on the best products. The following will be your guide to finding the right conditioner for your hair care needs.
Just as with any product you shop for at the store, it is important to read the labels, not just for the ingredients but to find out exactly what the item promises to do for you. You don’t have to be a professional hair stylist to understand some of the basic formulas and treatments when it comes to conditioner. The most common types of conditioner you’ll come across include: deep conditioners, color enhancing conditioners, leave-in conditioners and detangling conditioners.
“Deep” is the keyword when it comes to deep conditioners. This particular hair care product is designed to tackle hair that is damaged and in need of repair, whether you are suffering from dry hair, breakage, split ends or dry scalp. Deep conditioners are very different from regular conditioners and are typically not meant for daily use. Most people use a deep conditioning product on their hair once or twice a week as needed. In order for the formula to do its job it must be applied to the hair after shampooing and left on for anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes before being rinsed out.
Because putting color/dye on the hair exposes it to harsh chemicals, color enhancing conditioners serves to not only provide hydration and nourishment to the hair, it also contains ingredients that help maintain the quality, shine and appearance of your new hair color. Color enhancing conditioners prevent your hair color from fading or becoming dull.
As the name implies, leave-in conditioners are not meant to be washed out after application like traditional conditioners. Leave-in conditioners have the ability to keep your tresses moisturized, healthy and strong long after you’ve stepped out of the shower. Their penetrating ingredients are also able to repair damaged hair and prevent dryness, breakage and split ends.
Detangling conditioners are designed for people with hair types that are prone to becoming tangled, especially after washing. Tangled hair can easily become damaged, resulting in hair loss and breakage. Using detangling conditioners makes combing through your hair after washing much easier and will decrease your chances of pulling your hair out.
