Color
Consider having your stylist add warmer tones to hair. Current colors channel those from a dessert menu, such as mocha, caramel, hazelnut and brown sugar. For those who would like to hold on to their sun-kissed summer highlights, ask for a warmer color to be placed on every other section. For those who don’t color their hair but would like a color boost, ask for a demi-permanent color, a subtle introduction to color that gradually fades in approximately five weeks. Also consider a glaze, another subtle coat of color that adds shine.
Length
Hair lengths are either short or past shoulder length, with medium lengths opting for either a haircut or growing out. For short hair, the pixie cuts of summer are now softened to a length just grazing the ears, and long hair reaches almost to the middle of the back. Both lengths can benefit from multiple layers to release movement and create a soft, touchable look.
Styles and Accessories
·
Gone are summer styles such as ocean beach waves or piecey bed head. Short hair is sleek and shiny, achieved by using a serum or shine spray first applied on palms of hands, then smoothed over blow-dried strands.
·
For longer lengths, consider two types of waves: loose, 1940’s-type or slightly messy but polished. Glamorous, old
·
For slightly messy waves, apply a curl serum or crème to damp hair, scrunch a bit while blow-drying and apply a finishing paste to ends while twirling strategic pieces around fingers.
·
For long, straight hair, crimping is back! Unlike the all-over, 1980’s styles, crimp only on a few strategic strands, such as the hair just grazing the face.
·
For those growing out medium lengths or have long lengths, a classic ballerina bun placed at the crown adds sophistication and works also works best on day-old hair.
Accessories can add both a playful and sophisticated twist to hair. Current accessories include:
·
Bold pattern scarves.
·
Jeweled hairpins.
·
Large, buckle or square shaped hairclips in colors such as purple, ruby, emerald or hot pink and neon orange.
