Getting what you Want from your Stylist

How to Describe the Latest Do`s

Getting what you Want from your StylistWe`ve all had the experience of walking into a salon with a vivid image of what we would like our hair to look like in our minds, and walking out with a much different result. Sometimes the problem is with the stylist, but more often than not, the problem lies in the communication between the two of you. If you have found a trendy new do that you want to try out, it is important to let your stylist know precisely what you have in mind. We have some of the latest lingo to help you get what you want at the salon.

Put your Hands in Action

Even if you walk in requesting an emo cut, this popular style can vary widely in terms of length and other factors. Once you`ve got proper name for the style you are craving, be very specific with the stylist in terms of how much you want cut off in both the front and back. "A little off the bottom" may mean vastly different things at different salons, so show your stylist how long or short you want the look. It is also a good idea to sit up straight in the chair to ensure that you cut ends up nice and even.

A Vocabulary Lesson

So here`s a rundown of some of the trendy new phrases to describe the most popular hairstyles of today. If you are looking for a straight, sleek look, let your stylist know that you are looking for smooth and shiny in the finished product. Your stylist may even recommend the perfect styling product to give your tresses that extra bit of sheen as a finishing touch. A long style with some bounce at the ends requires smooth roots ending with wavy curls that begin about chin length. For the messy, sexy look that says you just climbed out of bed, ask for texture and volume from the roots to the ends.

Take a Picture

Photographs are another good way to ensure you get the look you want, so feel free to bring one along. If you don`t feel like investing in a pile of hair and beauty mags in preparation for your trip, check the Internet for a plethora of choices online. Either print of the picture of your choice, or send the link to your stylist via email. Don`t be surprised if your stylist gives your photo a quick glance and then grabs his scissors. If you have chosen a popular do, your pro has probably cut and styled numerous heads with a similar style. However, make sure that you are specific on the length, since what works great for Jennifer Aniston may be a wee bit too long for you.

A new do can be a great way to give yourself and your hair a lift. However, if you go into the salon requesting Lucy Liu`s look, you don`t want to come out looking like Lucy Van Pelt from the Peanuts gang. Communication is everything.
