Short to Long: Growing Out a Short ‘Do the Stylish Way

Short to Long: Growing Out a Short ‘Do the Stylish WayHaving short hair is fun, carefree and easier to manage. However, there comes a time when you end up missing your layers of long tresses. In this instance, the next step is to grow your short hair out in order to get your old length back. Of course the process of growing out hair isn’t always a pretty one. The good news is there are some alternatives available for each stage that will help your hair remain stylish until you reach your ideal length.

One of the quickest signs that a woman is growing out her hair includes the sudden fascination with wearing hats. Although there are plenty of hat styles that can be worn, this accessory isn’t your only option for the in between stages of hair growth.

If your tresses are in their shortest stage there won’t be as much you can do because there will not be as much length to work with. During this time, hair clips, barrettes and other hair jewelry can bring a flair of style to your hair that can complement any outfit. Don’t forget colorful headbands and fashionable headscarves. The last two items look especially great on any type of short hair and doesn’t require you to do as much in terms of maintenance.

Starting to get a big of length going? Since you’re trying to grow out your short ‘do, you’ll want to avoid cutting your hair so that it is even all over. In most cases, your hair won’t all grow at the same rate or at the same length so going for an overall chop isn’t the best way to go. A better approach would be to start thumbing through reference photos of your favorite celebs and/or models with the same hair length as you in order to get ideas for additional looks you can wear. This includes using hair gel or pomade to sculpt your tresses and curling your hair differently to frame your face in a way that is more flattering. Work with what you have in the meantime.

Not only is it important to seek out other ways to wear your hair while growing it out, it is vital to keep it healthy, too. Make sure you regularly keep your tresses conditioned and moisturized. When you feel it’s necessary, a basic trim will keep your ends looking uniform and free from breakage. When getting your hair trimmed, ask your stylist to shape and style your hair so that it grows out more evenly. It also helps to grow out the top first, which will give your tresses a chance to grow out evenly over time. In addition to proper and diligent hair care, it is important to also take other actions that encourage healthy growth and stimulation for your tresses. Drinking plenty of water and eating a balanced diet that includes lean meat, fruits and vegetables also contributes to sleek, shiny and naturally lustrous hair.
