The cool new updo for the season is, of course, messy with a hint of sleek and smooth. Whoever thought the bed head look would hold on this long? Admit it though…you love it too. And it’s heck-a easy to do. It’s a low side pony twisted into a bun. To get the look, side part your hair and, you guessed it, tease away! Tease your crown all the way from the front to the back. Gently glide your brush over the top of your tease to achieve just the right amount of smooth. Repeat as often as necessary to get the depth you want. Pull your hair around into a low side pony and twist it any which way you choose into a bun. Secure with bobby pins and a little spray and your glam to go. Pro Trick: Use extra long pins pointed up toward your head to hold. They won’t fall out as easily.
Long and straight, but not too sleek. That’s the style you’re going for if you want to sport the “I just woke up with this long, lux hair” look. To do it well, blow dry your hair upside down and use a paddle brush to keep it straight. Use a curling iron to pull ends out away from your head. Finish it by rubbing a styling gel into your palms and pulling it through small sections from root to tip and then rubbing it all over. Pro Trick: Start with a super strong gel if you have curly hair.
If your goal is to accentuate that curly hair, work a leave-in conditioner through your hair and twirl two or more strands together at a time. Blow dry with a diffuser as you continue to twist those ringlets. Twist your curls smooth around your face for long hair or straight out from your head and let the curls fall for short hair. Pro Trick: Do not towel dry very curly hair. Try an old T-shirt instead for less frizz. Also don’t run your hands through your curly hair to apply gel. Do it one section at a time for great curls that aren’t clumped.
For big, bouncy waves pull medium sections of dry hair straight out and up with a curling iron then roll them right back down. Pin the curls to your scalp and let the curls cool or blast them with cold air from a blow drier (this adds to the messy look we all love.) Then all you have to do is remove the pins and either work waves with your fingers or gently brush. Pro Trick: Set waves while they’re pinned with a light spray designed to be flexible with your hair.
