Great Haircuts and Hairstyle for Your Face Shape (Part 1)

Great Haircuts and Hairstyle for Your Face Shape (Part 1)It’s easy to picture yourself with the latest hairstyle but actually being able to pull it off is a whole other story. Not every hairstyle or cut can be worn by just anyone - even the celebs! The best way to get your perfect ‘do is by choosing a hairstyle or haircut that flatters the shape of your face. You may be surprised by all of the options you have to choose from.

Before you commit to the type of tresses you want to sport, you should know your face shape. There are several common face shapes that will help you decide what style or cut to choose. Browsing through magazines and looking at photos of celebrities with the same face shape as yours will also give you a better idea of how a particular style will look on you. Find out which face shape matches yours below and see what suggested styles go best:

Square

This face shape is just as wide as it is long and usually consists of a strong, square jaw line as well as a square hairline.

Suggested styles: Because square faces can tend to have strong features, you’ll want a hairstyle that gives your face a softer look. Avoid long, bone-straight styles, since these only serve to make your features appear more harsh and pronounced. Also stay away from bangs that are cut straight across. Instead, opt for wispy bangs or side-parts. Square faces look great with medium to short cuts and adding waves or soft layers can perfectly frame and elongate your face.

Heart

Heart-shaped faces are wide at the temples, hairline, forehead and cheekbones, with a narrow/small chin.

Suggested styles: The key here is to create a balance that doesn’t draw so much attention to the wideness of your face. Stay away from short hairstyles, which only make your already wide features appear wider. Stick to chin-length and longer hairstyles. Side-parts as well as layers at the crown always flatter heart-shaped faces. This face shape can even get away with sporting a chin-length bob.

Diamond

This particular face shape is a cross between a heart and an oval, with wide cheekbones and a narrow forehead and jaw line that are about equal in width.

Suggested styles: Just about any style can work with this face shape. Long or short styles work well. The main thing to be aware of is maintaining the balance between the cheekbones and chin line so avoid styles that tend to put a lot of weight and volume close to your face; instead concentrate that weight to the back nape area. Also keep away from messy styles that cover most of your face since this tends to make your dramatic features recede.
