Triangular
Think of a triangular face shape as the opposite of a heart-shaped face, with a strong, prominent jaw line that narrows at the cheekbones and temples.
Suggested styles:
To soften the strong jaw line, hairstyles that are full and voluminous at the temples - especially with short hair - balances the narrowness of the temples with the jaw line. Side-parts, shags and wedge styles are perfect for this face shape. Styles that taper at the jaw line also help accentuate your other features. Tucking hair behind the ears also provides the illusion of width to the narrow parts of the face. Avoid hairstyles that are long and full of volume, as well as parting your hair down the center. This only serves to bring unwanted focus to your jaw line. When using a full hairstyle near the crown of your head, don’t go overboard or else you’ll be adding the appearance of too much weight to your face.
Round
Like square faces, a round face shape is as long as it is wide but has a fuller appearance with a round chin and hairline. The cheeks and ears tend to be the widest features.
Suggested styles:
Because rounded faces don’t need any extra emphasis on its shape, stay away from styles that make your face look rounder than it already is. This means no short crops, straight, chopped bangs, center parts, or any style that creates fullness around the ears. To avoid making your face appear wider, opt for styles that create fullness and height at the crown. If you want to go for layers, make sure they are only at the top, while keeping the rest of your hair regular length to give off the illusion of an elongated face. If you want to sport short hair, make sure it isn’t shorter than chin-length.
Oblong/Rectangular
This face shape is longer than it is wide, with slender features. The forehead and the area below the cheekbones are usually the same width, with either a narrow chin or high forehead.
Suggested styles:
Avoid any styles that make your face appear longer. Short to medium length cuts with soft, wispy bangs and fullness on the sides will restore balance and proportion. Layers are the best look for this face shape to add softness and dimension. Don’t sport long tresses, since this only makes your face look longer so keep it from going past your shoulders.
Oval
Faces with an oval shape tend to have a jaw line that is slightly narrower than the temples, with a rounded hairline and a length that is one and a half times its width.
Suggested styles:
Having an oval face is by far the most ideal when it comes to hairstyles because just about any cut or style looks fabulous on this face shape. Long, short, medium, straight bangs, wispy bangs, side parts, center parts, choppy hair, bone-straight hair - oval face shapes can pull them all off! Because this face shape is so easy to work with, don’t let your style overwhelm your face or cover up your lovely features.
