Believe it or not, there are ways you can use salon techniques to benefit your hair at home and keep your money in your wallet. The first thing you’ll need to do is take mental notes when you visit the salon. It is important that you be observant about everything your hairstylist does to your hair so that you can duplicate the same methods at home. If you tend to be the type of person that loves to chat away while getting your hair done, you’ll need to arrange things so that not only are you keeping up on the latest gossip but are also aware of what is being done to your tresses. Are you wondering how you get those fabulous layers? Then pay attention to the mirror and see what cutting techniques the hairstylist is using. Does he/she take large sections of hair to cut or small sections? What direction does the hairstylist use to cut your layers? Check out what kind of styling and cutting tools are being used on your hair. More often than not you can easily find these same hair tools in any beauty supply store.
Do you love the way your tresses feel after you’ve had a professional deep conditioning treatment? When your hairstylist leads you to the wash area, take note of the brand and type of conditioner and shampoo that they use. If you want to duplicate the same results, using the same products will help you accomplish this. A majority of salons carry the very products they use so you can simply purchase what you need. However, we all know that salon quality hair products are not cheap. Luckily, you also have the option of searching for the same salon products online. Nine times out of ten you can find the same items for much less or with special discounts when purchased online, compared to buying them from the actual salon.
In addition to observing, ask questions. Your hairstylist is highly knowledgeable so tap into their skill set and find out just how they are able to get your hair so fabulous. Of course you don’t want to interrogate them or otherwise make it clear that you are trying to achieve the same results at home. Simple questions like, “what ingredients does this shampoo have that makes my hair so shiny?”, “Why do you cut my hair at an angle to get the layers” and similar questions will not only teach you their method but educate you about hair care at the same time.
