Do’s and Don’ts for the Perfect Hairstyle

Do’s and Don’ts for the Perfect HairstyleLife is filled with rules, and we have heard since childhood that rules are there for our own good. This is especially true of your hair care, since what you do with your hair will greatly affect how it will look. To have that glorious mane you’ve always dreamed of, there are a few rules that you need to follow. If you prefer, think of them as tips and tricks that will keep your hairstyle looking its best.

Keep it Clean

When it comes to clean hair, there are a few “do’s” that you will want to follow without fail. First, do try to avoid shampooing your hair every day, since too much cleansing will dry hair out. Opt for every other day if possible. Do use a clarifying shampoo every couple of weeks to strip the hair of residues that can be left in your strands through shampoos, conditioners and styling products. This residue can leave hair looking dull and lifeless. Do make sure that your shampoo is rinsed out completely and add a leave-in conditioner, especially in the winter months when flyaways can become a problem.

Don’t neglect conditioner when you are shampooing, even on the days that you are in a hurry. Conditioner is essential for restoring moisture to your hair, leaving it soft and manageable. Make sure that you find the right conditioner for your hair type. Don’t forget to give your hair a deep-conditioning treatment every two weeks to a month. This process will keep hair from getting damaged with the many styling products and tools that you use on it.

Style it Right

Styling your locks needs to be done with care, to ensure that you do not cause unnecessary damage to your hair through the styling aids that you use on it. Do make sure that you towel dry your hair thoroughly before touching it with a blow dryer. Hair should be about 80% dry before heat is applied to avoid too much exposure. Do use products on your hair that are designed to protect it from heat, especially if you use tools like blow dryers, curling irons and hot rollers every day. When you do use the dryer, point it in a downward direction to your hair’s tips, since blowing hair up and out will cause flyaways and frizzies.

Don’t ever put ponytail bands in your hair while it is still wet, since this can lead to stretching and breaking your hair strands. Don’t every try to brush out wet hair, unless you like split ends, because this will inevitably be the result. Instead, use a wide-toothed comb to work through tangles, preferably after applying a leave-in conditioner or detangler when necessary. Don’t allow your hair to dry in the sun, since sunlight can damage wet hair. It is best to air dry indoors. Don’t ever touch the ends of your hair with a blow dryer, since this part of your hair will dry quite nicely and quickly on its own. Instead, head for the roots, and work your way down for the least damage potential.

Your hair will only look as good as you treat it, so make sure you treat it right by following these hair care rules. Your hair is sure to thank you.
