Perfect Prom Hair

Perfect Prom HairNo need to rely on expensive hair stylists for hair that everyone loves at prom. Use these simple tips and tricks to have a perfect night of carefree hair.

Condition your Hair the Week Before Prom

Many ladies wait until night before prom to give their hair a conditioning treatment, and the result is moisturized hair that may be too shiny and slippery to style the way you want to. Hair can be harder to bobby pin and curl if it has been conditioned recently, and if nothing else it can be unpredictable. To make sure your hair has enough life but is not in shock from a conditioning treatment the night of the dance, condition a week ahead of time.

Experiment Before Choosing a Style

Use the weeks before prom to try out the different ways you want your hair to look rather than looking at books and trusting a stylist to execute the look you want. Hair may look good in a book or on the model but unless you see how it looks on you it is impossible to know if the style will look right. Have your girlfriends over and help each other find the right style. If you know what you like and do not like about a style, you will be able to direct a hairstylist better on your big day.

Consider Controlling your own Destiny

Instead of relying on someone else to do your hair, practice on your own and don’t spend money and time worrying about your hair. Think about simple, classic looks that are easy to do and don’t require a lot of time. A dramatic curled ponytail with bangs swept to the side and a shiny clip is a great way to execute a style you wouldn’t normally wear but looks beautiful, effortless and easy.

Choose a Convertible Hairstyle

Change your hair halfway through the night and look fresh for the after-party with style designed to look perfect all night with a few easy changes. Pin natural curls loosely back in an up-do with flowers and let them down, shake them out, and sweep the front back with a ribbon for a late night snack after the dance. Wear a braid folded under your hair for a Cinderella look on the dance floor, and take out the braid and finger comb for a texture filled ponytail at the after-prom party.

Be Prepared

Cram bobby pins, small barrettes and a hair tie or two in your little purse to make sure you are prepared for anything that might happen to your hair. Use a little lip-gloss on your finger tips for touching up frizz on your hairline during the night.
