Spring 2008 Hair Trends

Spring 2008 Hair TrendsThe fashion winds of Spring 2008 carry in soft do’s, bursts of unexpected color and a favorite style reborn according to the experts who tease and flat iron high fashion runway hair into a work of art. Stylists have weighed in and called it a draw when asked which is more important, the cut or the color. This means spring hair trends are fun, affordable and easy to manage whether you’re headed to the beach or an evening out.

Soft is the goal of this season’s look that has brought back the smooth, gentle curls of the Marilyn Monroe era. Whether you’re platinum blonde or velvety black, sleek, full waves are in. Stylists caution not to over-style your do to accomplish a look. Heavy use of product or teasing is not okay this season. To get a day-at-the-beach version of the Marilyn wave, flip damp hair upside down and spritz with aerosol hairspray, work through with your fingers. Pull hair into a high pony at the top of your head. Wrap hair into a bun and pin. Allow your hair to air dry or, if you’re in a rush, use a low heat setting to blow dry focusing the air near your scalp and not the ends. Simply shake out the loose waves and you’re off.

For a more distinct version of this style, use volumizing spritz on the roots and volumizing pomade on your ends. Set hair in Velcro rollers turning the curls in the direction you want them to fall when you’ve removed the roller. Allow to dry and hit with a burst of hot air to ensure total dryness and then cold air to set the curl.

Soft is also the goal for straight styles this season. To achieve the ultimate in sleek straightness that still moves with you, begin by applying an ultra straightening balm to damp hair. Blow dry straight (not upside down). Add a heat activated texturizing serum or spritz and flat iron in sections working from the bottom layer to your crown. Finish your look with a shine spray for a finish that will capture light.

Unexpected shocks of color are showing up this spring from the runways to the boardwalks. Experts say to look for subtle ways to punch up your style with a streak of pink, green or blue. Try adding either a washable streak deep in the center of your ponytail or an extension inserted into the middle of your pony and cut half the length of your natural hair. The trick is to make your color a tease – did you see it, or not?

When it comes to everyday color and cut, stylists agree that a cut suited to your face and your personality can carry your color past its prime. This season boasts both long and short cuts, but focuses on the eyes and the cheekbones. High style cuts blunt bangs over dark or piercing eyes and molds soft curls with shimmering highlights around bright eyes.

Be on the lookout for an old favorite reborn in the side pony. Whatever your color and wherever you’re headed, the side-parted ponytail is back. It’s casual and elegant and easy to manage. Simply work volumizing product into your hair and blow dry for added texture. Part your hair at the natural arch of your eyebrow then sweep hair low and to the side. Use hairspray or gel to smooth near your face and along the part. Tussle hair as you dry for a casual version and use a paddle brush to smooth for a sleek look.
