Thermal Damage
Sun damage is one type of thermal damage. It removes moisture and hair color. Just like your skin it is important to also protect your hair with SPF.
Try Paul Mitchell Color Protect Shampoo and Conditioner as they both contain sunscreen and are lightweight. For styling products that contain sunscreen, try new Round Trip and Quick Slip products.
Chemical Damage
Chemical damage associated with chlorine is a problem. For recreational swimming where you are in and out of the pool there is no substitute for a hat. If you are doing laps and wear a swim cap, always wet your hair in the shower first. Putting a little conditioner in your hair before putting on your cap can also help. Hair can only absorb so much, if you fill it up before going in the pool it will absorb less chlorine.
If you are swimming regularly Shampoo
People with longer hair may also want to use a deep conditioning treatment once a week such as, Hair Repair Treatment also by Paul Mitchell.
Environmental Damage
A form of environmental damage often overlooked is wind damage. For people with long hair, if you ride a motorcycle or are in convertibles a pony tail is great. The key is, don`t pull it all the way through. Leave it in a loop at the back this keeps the ends from taking a beating.
These are some general tips and tricks but for your specific needs see your salon professional, hairdressers are here to help.
