The last thing anyone wants is to regret their decision to take major length off of their hair. This is why it is very important to approach the subject the right way. Before even heading to the salon, the following tips should be taken very seriously in order to get the best results.
Think It Over
Going from long or medium length hair to super short is a huge change and it should be one that you are 100% comfortable with. After you’ve made your decision, do not go straight to the salon to get it done. Instead, mull it over and sleep on it for a few days. The downtime will really give you the opportunity to address any nagging doubts or questions that may run through your mind. Unless you’re the type of person that has no problem committing to new ideas or drastic changes, don’t rush yourself.
Lifestyle
Sporting shorter tresses may eliminate tons of unnecessary hair but this style has its own special set of maintenance required. Think about whether you want to deal with making sure your hair looks good through the use of gel, spray, pomade, etc. Remember, less hair means doing a bit more to get it to sit the way you like - no more whipping it up into a bun or loose ponytail when you’re feeling lazy.
In addition to the steps needed to care for shorter hair, also take into account whether you’ll be okay with having short hair year-round. While less is ideal for the summer, what about the fall and winter season? Also think about if you want to have a short hairstyle when attending special events, such as a wedding. Until you decide to grow your hair back out, you’ll be forced to commit to your new ‘do and everything that comes with it.
Reference, Reference, Reference
As with any change in hairstyles and length, it’s vital that women wanting a short ‘do collect as many reference photos as possible. Remember, not all short hairstyles are the same. For the most desirable results, choose reference photos of women (models, celebrities, etc.) that have a similar face shape as you. A pixie cut on one face shape can look amazing, while other face shapes should avoid this particular style completely. When you have the ideal reference photos showcasing your potential look with shorter hair, achieving the end result will be much easier.
Get Professional Assistance
Of course you’ll need the assistance of a professional hair stylist to bring your vision to life but before allowing their scissors to come near your head, do a consultation first. Show the hair stylist your reference photos and find out what styling tools and hair care products they recommend for daily maintenance. Ask any and all questions you may have and use their feedback to ultimately decide if you want to take the plunge or not. If you’re all set to go, then sit back, relax and prepare yourself for a new look!
