Touch Up your Roots the Easy Way

Touch Up your Roots the Easy WayColoring your hair can be fun and fashionable, but flaunting those roots after a few weeks is not. It doesn’t take long – maybe four weeks or so – before those roots start rearing their ugly little heads once more. This is the time to keep them at bay with a quick touch-up that doesn’t have to mean a full color processing. There are many great products on the market today that are designed specifically for touch-ups in between full coloring sessions. You don’t even necessarily have to go with the same brand as your original treatment, as long as you find a shade that is very close to yours. These kits are created to offer a quick and easy touch-up, whether your original treatment was performed at home or in the salon.

Another option in touching up the roots is to apply another box of the same color that you used originally. If you follow the directions for touch-ups, you can use this product every four to six weeks. Since the home color processes are not terribly expensive and take less than an hour to complete, this can be a good choice for touch-ups as well. Make sure that if you use this technique at home, you overlap the color to the area that still contains the original dye, to ensure that the color is well blended. It is also a good idea to apply the color with the brush that comes with the kit, and to avoid massaging it into your scalp.

Keep that Color Going

Another way that you can keep your color treatment fresh for as long as possible is to use a shampoo and conditioner that are specifically designed for color-treated hair. These products generally offer protection from the sun, which is the most common culprit in fading that color process. To avoid frequent root touch-ups, you can also use a tinted shampoo or conditioner that will give your treatment a color boost every time you use it. Take note that using both of these products at the same time might give you more color than you want. A tinted shampoo will be most effective for a lot of fading, while a conditioner will work well for a more subtle brightening.

By following a few tips with caring for your color-treated hair, you can stretch that color for as long as possible. When the time comes for a touch-up, simply follow one of these processes to keep your roots in check, and no one will ever know that your gorgeous hair color comes from a bottle!
