Wigs

WigsEver heard the expression, “flipped you wig”? It was a expression back in the 1960’s and 70’s when hair pieces and full wigs were a part of popular culture. You could even hear people sing about them, such as “put on your high –heel sneakers and your wig-hat on your head.” Imagine a hat that was also a wig - pretty unsophisticated stuff!

These days hairpieces are making a comeback and the quality is amazing. While full wigs are related mostly to health issues, the use of hair extensions or a hair piece is becoming more commonplace. With advances in products and techniques now you can add more hair for a fuller look, or wear your hair in a different style for a special occasion.

If you are in the market for a hair piece or a full wig, you have several options. Your first decision is whether you want human hair or synthetic, or artificial, hair. There is a big difference and it’s not just the price. Human hair is more expensive, but it also allows more flexibility for styling. You can do all of the things you would do with your own hair – color, cut, and change the style.

If money is an object, the synthetic hair might be more in line with your budget. You will have less flexibility with styling however. What you see is pretty much what you get. If you decide to go the artificial route, make sure you like the color and the style because you won’t be able to make significant changes.

Just as with your own hair, wigs and hair pieces need to be cleaned on a regular basis. You should use shampoos and conditioners that are specifically made for wigs. This is especially true for synthetic hair. Another consideration for synthetic hair is to avoid blow dryers, hot rollers, or any type of curling iron.

Don’t worry about people thinking “you’ve flipped your wig” just because you have decided to buy a hair piece. You’re not crazy – you’re just enjoying the benefits you’ll gain from flexibility with your hair style.
