3 Perfect Looks for Any Face

3 Perfect Looks for Any FaceA “natural” look in makeup is the hottest thing going even if it’s a bit more made up for a night out or a special occasion. But “natural” couldn’t be more confusing because, by definition, you shouldn’t be putting anything on a face that’s going au natural, right? So how in the world do women look more natural with makeup on? Makeup artists share their favorite secrets for making famous faces look glowy and natural.

If you are fair sinned like Nicole Kidman, your “natural” colors are in the pink and rosy palette. Makeup artist Bobbi Brown says, “The idea is to add color to your face, not take it away.” So be cautious of using colors that are too pale for your skin or lips in an effort to look like you’re not wearing a lot of makeup.

You’ll want to start, of course, with natural makeup in minerals or other organic compounds, but remember that this type of makeup looks best on evened out skin. Give your skin an even tone with mineral powder foundation. To find the right shade of blush, pinch yourself – well your cheeks anyway. The color that pops up is the perfect one for you. Choose either a cream blush/lip combo or a blend of light and medium pinks in a mix of matte and shimmer bases. These combo blush/ bronzer compacts are available from most cosmetic lines. To find a lip color, use the same approach – press your lips together and wait for the pink to appear. Definitely don’t choose a color that matches the palest part of your lips.

Medium skin tones have the most room to play. You can experiment with pinks or browns and even into the dessert colors. Brown’s rules are to go for creamy textures when using nudes. Start with a bronze/copper/pink illuminator on your cheeks, brow, nose and chin – go light! Choose a darker shade for the crease of your eyes and a lighter one along the brown bone. To amp up your eyes at might, add a glimmering shadow to the inner corners and more mascara. Dust a nude blush along your cheek bones and finish with a cream lip stain topped with an apricot gloss. The look is flawless and amazing!

Bronze is the winning color for darker skin tones. You want to try warm, brown shades in mocha and copper to really enhance your deep complexion – especially around your eyes. You get to use the metallic flecked bronzers and shadows that the rest of the world tries so desperately (and hopelessly) to use. Metallics look fabulous on your cheeks and dusted lightly across your sun kissed areas (the parts of your face that tan first.) To chose the right lip color, you have to really customize. If your lips have a pink base, go for lighter colors. If your lips have a brown base, you’ll look great in caramels or chocolate hues. According to Brown, the real test for lip color is “if it works with no other makeup on.”
