The Lady in Red: How to Accentuate your Red Lipstick

The Lady in Red: How to Accentuate your Red LipstickThere is no surer way to get noticed than with a pair of radically red lips. Red lipstick is a mainstay that can hold its own throughout almost any fashion trend. Women will don the red lips for day and night, to the office or the office gala. However, some women shy away from red lipstick because it is so very noticeable and they aren`t sure what to do with the rest of their makeup colors. If you have been dying to wear red but are unsure how to do it, we`ve got all the tips you need to wear it right and accentuate it beautifully. Whether you`re heading to work or an evening on the town, we`ll teach you how to be the lady in red.

Choosing the Perfect Shade

The hardest part of wearing red lipstick is often the selection process. You need to choose the best shade for your coloring or you most definitely won`t end up with the look that you are hoping for. The best rule of thumb is that if your skin has pink undertones, you will want to select a cool red that leans more to the plum shades. For yellow undertones, go for a red with a brown or tawny base to ensure that the shade is warm enough for you. When trying on shades at the cosmetic counter, apply a bit of the lipstick to your fingertip, rather than the back of your hand, to find the best color for you.

Perfect Application

If you are still nervous about wearing red, you can begin with a sheer shade in a lip stain. Glosses and cream lipsticks are next on the "get noticed" scale, followed up with the ultra-dramatic matte lipsticks that are perfect for evening wear. For lipsticks, it is best to line the lips first with a lip pencil, since red lipstick has a tendency to bleed. Follow up with an application of lipstick applied with a brush for better control. If you like, you can add a dab of gloss on the middle of the lower lip for a subtle pout, or gloss along the entire lip for plenty of shine.

What to Wear with Red

Here`s the most important rule to remember if you are going for `vixen` rather than `circus clown`. If you want your lips to get all of the attention, play down your eyes so that the two don`t compete for the focus. Begin with a sheer application of cream eye shadow in a neutral color and follow up with a coat or two of mascara. Darker complexions can go with black mascara, and fairer women can opt for brown. Use eyeliner if you must, but keep it understated, blended well and in a neutral shade. Cheeks can also get a lighter treatment with neutral shades that will give you just a hint of a glow.

The lady in red is sure to get noticed wherever she goes, as long as the red in question is chosen and applied with care and savvy. You don`t have to fear red any longer, with these tips under your belt. Love your lips.
