Affordable Summer Makeup

Affordable Summer MakeupThe delicate pinks and peaches and soft, neutral browns and violets of Spring 2006 give way to bright, tropical colors for Summer 2006. The warm weather is a chance to skip intricate makeup routines and instead create an illusion of tanned skin while highlighting one feature: luminous eyes, flushed cheeks or bold lips. The idea is to create a playful, day-on-the-beach look that can be equally alluring in the evening. Some of the colors on the horizon include:

·    Turquoise and aqua eyes – whether as a shadow or liner, these colors are equally flattering on light, medium and dark skin tones. Try Cover Girl Eye Enhancers in Aqua Paradise ($3) or Pout Eye Shadow Duo in Miss Fiji ($18).

·    Coral, pink and tangerine blush – adds a delicate flush and a touch of shimmer against tanned skin. Try Pout Rouge in Coral Diva (apricot), Blossom Belle (tangerine) or Berry Babe (pink) ($20).

·    Hot pink and fuchsia lips – one layer of lip-gloss is all you need for a fresh and polished look. Try Sephora Super Shimmer Lip Gloss in Think Pink ($10) or Benefit the gloss in Miss Priss ($12).

Of course no summer makeup routine is complete with out a few key staples:

·    Powder bronzer – the ultimate summer accessory to pull a look together and achieve an outdoor glow without the sun’s harmful rays. Try Maybelline Brush Blush Bronzer in Sunlight ($5).

·    Waterproof mascara – even if you don’t swim it’s a must to prevent mascara meltdown and avoid rings around the eyes. For a softer look, use a brown color instead of black. Try Maybelline Sky High Curves Waterproof Mascara in Brownish-Black ($6).

·    Tinted moisturizer – look for one with an SPF so you get the benefits of even skin tone and sun protection. Try Sonia Kashuk Radiant Tinted Moisturizer with SPF 15 ($13).

·    Loose powder – contains fewer oils than a compact. Choose one that creates a non-drying yet smooth finish. Try Pout Translucent Loose Powder ($28). Remember when playing up one feature with bold color (either eyes, cheeks or lips), keep the rest of the makeup simple to avoid looking overdone or suffer from makeup meltdown.
