Appropriate Makeup for Daytime (And What Looks to Avoid)

Appropriate Makeup for DaytimeSome makeup looks, such as bronzed skin, sculpted lashes and clear lip gloss, can be flattering when worn day or night. While there are no set rules for makeup, certain looks and colors look best in the daytime and will convey a natural, polished image, especially in the workplace. To enhance features, here are some appropriate looks and colors and ones to avoid.

Eyes

Choose:

·           Matte, neutral eye shadows in browns, taupes, pinks, peaches and soft plums.

·           Pencil eyeliners in soft browns, charcoals, plums or denim. If a dark color is preferred, choose dark brown, navy or slate gray.

·           A defining or lengthening mascara in brown, brownish black or soft black.

·           A powder eyebrow compact.

Avoid:

·           Liquid eyeliner.

·           False eyelashes.

·           Dark, penciled eyebrows.

Cheeks

Choose:

·           Universal colors such as soft pink, peach or a light coral with a touch of shimmer.

·           A powder bronzer (if desired) on the tops of temples and cheekbones for a natural glow.

Avoid:

·           Dark blush colors such as plum, coral or brick.

·           Using bronzer all over the face.

Lips

Choose:

·           Crème or moisturizing lipsticks in soft pinks, peaches, corals, mauves, roses and apricots. A lipstick with a slight shimmer is also flattering.

·           A clear lip-gloss or one in a color mentioned above.

Looks to Avoid:

·           Winged, dramatic eyeliner.

·           Bright red or burgundy lips lined with dark lip liner.

·           Dark, flat, matte lip color.

·           Blue, green, purple, yellow or red eye shadow.

·           Very black eyeliner.

·           Sparkly eye shadow or lipstick.

·           Extreme facial sculpting and contouring.

·           The smoky eye/pale lip look.
