Choosing a Makeup Remover for Your Skin Type

Choosing a Makeup Remover for Your Skin TypeOne of the most important makeup rules is to never, ever fall asleep with your makeup on! This bad habit can lead to breakouts, blemishes and can wreak havoc on your complexion. By using a good quality makeup remover you can get rid of all traces of your makeup before going to bed. However, just as you should take your skin type into account when searching for skincare products, you also need to do the same when looking for the right makeup remover.

Many women tend to use their regular facial cleanser to remove their makeup. This is fine if you have a two-in one cleanser that works to cleanse your complexion as well as remove makeup. But if you are just using a standard cleanser, this may not be enough. Leaving even a trace amount of makeup on your skin can leave it feeling filmy and still has the ability to clog your pores. Makeup removers are designed to effectively remove all traces of foundation, powder, eye shadow, lip color, mascara and eye liner so it is important to include such a product in your skincare arsenal so that you’ll never have to worry about your makeup working against your complexion.

It is important to note that if you wear a lot of eye makeup you may have to purchase a separate makeup remover made just for the eye area. The product you choose should be gentle and designed specifically for taking off mascara, eye shadow and eye liner.

Your skin type should be a major factor in determining what kind of makeup remover you should purchase. If you happen to have sensitive skin then you will want to avoid products that contain harsh chemicals like fragrances and alcohol. Most women tend to choose a liquid makeup remover, which is oil based. However, this type may not be suitable for oily skin types but ideal for dry skin types. Although oil-based products are usually not as good for your skin because it can leave it feeling greasy, most makeup products dissolve easier in oil. For oily skin types use such products sparingly or opt for a cosmetic mineral oil and read the label to make sure that it is non-comedogenic.

For those that prefer natural products, you can look into makeup removers that don’t have to be purchased in a store. Olive oil and jojoba oil are two items that can be used to remove layers of makeup, although your complexion will be greasy afterwards, which may require you to use your cleanser. Another ideal makeup remover that is natural and works for just about every skin type is cleansing milk. These types of product are made with a combination of oils, water and other natural ingredients. This combination is great for dissolving makeup while cleansing the skin. You can find the right cleansing milk for your skin type based on the natural oils it contains. For example, sensitive skin types will want to opt for a cleansing milk that contains chamomile.
