Customized Makeup - As Unique As You Are

Customized Makeup - As Unique As You AreThe makeup and beauty industry continues to make billions of dollars each year. With its glossy ads in magazines and supermodels on television, touting the benefits they get from using certain products, it’s no wonder that women around the globe willingly spend whatever the cost to achieve the promised, flawless results. While major brand names and products continue to enjoy such popularity, there’s a new kid on the block that is giving women even more options to work with. And its name is customized makeup.

Also known as “custom makeup” and “custom blend cosmetics,” this concept is exactly how it sounds: the process of having certain makeup products made to a customer’s specifications, based on their natural skin type and color. This practice isn’t completely brand new; however, more women are jumping onto this beauty bandwagon in order to get the products and results they know are truly made with them in mind.

There are a number of reasons why some women prefer customized makeup over the ready-made options on store shelves. Some enjoy knowing that there is makeup made just for them. Others are very picky about how they want their makeup products to be and know that through custom makeup, they can get exactly what they want. Women agonizing over losing a product due to it being discontinued also have the opportunity to recreate this item and get something very close to what they used to purchase at the store.

The good news is that you don’t need to go to another country or make an appointment with a fancy, overpriced dealer to get your own custom blend cosmetics. The popularity of this concept has grown so much in recent years that many women can now find customized makeup brands at local department stores or in their favorite shopping center as a stand-alone store. However, these companies haven’t overly saturated the market - meaning you won’t have to worry about being overwhelmed by too many custom blend cosmetics companies to choose from. In most cases, you’re likely to come across at least 2-3 in your area. Word of mouth referrals from people that have purchased customized makeup through certain companies are ideal but if you don’t know anyone who can give you a personal referral, it is okay to walk in and ask for a consultation.

It is important to explain clearly what you want out of your custom makeup. Knowing your skin type is a must. Talk about any skincare issues you’ve had in the past or are currently dealing with, as well as the brands of previous makeup products you’ve used before. List what you like and do not like about the makeup products you’re using now and what you would ideally expect from custom blend cosmetics. The more information you provide the makeup artist with, the easier it will be for them to find the right items. The price points vary from company to company but surprisingly, there are many brands offering their products for about the same cost (give or take a few dollars) as the ready-made department store brands.

The great thing about custom blend cosmetics is that they often have very good return/exchange policy. For example, if the color they create for you isn’t a true match, they’ll allow you to return the product and will continue mixing and matching until they get it right - and at no additional cost to you.
