Ditch the Dark Latina Makeup!

Ditch the Dark Latina Makeup!Latina skin comes in many beautiful shades of brown but unfortunately, when it comes to makeup and beauty, many Latinas use the wrong colors. Embracing dark browns, blacks and other garish colors tend to work against this type of complexion instead of enhancing it. Adding a little color and beauty know-how can turn a dark and overly dramatic Latina complexion into a lovely and sultry look.

When it comes to Latina skin, choosing the right shade of foundation is extremely important and is one of the most common makeup mistakes committed by Latinas. Those with darker complexions often use a shade of foundation that is too light for their skin in an attempt to appear lighter. This results in an unattractive, ashy appearance. The goal of Latina makeup isn’t to cover up or mask your brown skin - working with what you have and playing it up is the answer.

When choosing foundation, avoid formulas that contain ingredients such as titanium. These ingredients can often make your face appear ashy. There are a number of different types of foundation so choose the one that works best for your skin type. Latinas with oily skin can avoid embarrassing shine with matte foundations. Take your time looking for the perfect shade and make sure that when you blend it, the color vanishes into your skin. Look into makeup lines that specialize in shades for women of color. These brands will more than likely have the perfect shade for you. Mineral makeup is also an excellent choice if you don’t want to appear too made-up or have sensitive skin.

Latinas are known for dark, garish lip colors and using lip liner that is darker than their lipstick. This is a bad habit that should be broken right away! Just like foundation, your lip liner should match your lipstick so that it blends and appears flawless and natural. Dark lip liner creates an unsightly ring around the lips - not the best way to grab attention. When it comes to lip colors, choose a liner that is as close to the color of your lipstick as possible. If you’re on the darker side, try out dark reds with blue undertones, deep plum, soft sheer shades of pink, and beige. For lighter tones, lipstick shades in peach, light/medium browns, pinks and gold work well.

If you’re playing up your lips, go light on the eye makeup and vice-versa. Various eye shadow colors work well with Latina skin of all types. Simple makeup tips such as curling your eyelashes, can really open up the eye area. To bring attention to your eyes, go for colors that have a little extra shimmer. Balancing the colors on your face, coupled with the right shade of foundation make Latina skin of all shades look amazing.
