Eye Makeup Now: What’s Hot, What’s Not

Eye Makeup Now: What’s Hot, What’s NotJust like the rest of your style, your eyes need to keep up with the latest fashion. This winter, there are looks for the eyes that are definitely hot – and others that are most certainly not. It’s time to update your peepers for the winter season, by adding a few new shades to your makeup palette. Say farewell to the pastel hues that were so in this past spring and summer and discover how to make your eyes look dreamy, smoky or just plain sexy this winter.

Stylin’ Brows

No matter how updated your eyes get, they will still look passé if they are framed by an outdated brow. Forget the thin brows with the high arches that are so yesterday. Today’s eyebrows are thick and natural looking, with a bit of pencil action to fill in thinner areas and accent the look. Brush them up and tweeze the strays, but keep your natural arch and avoid over plucking at all costs.

Matte Lids

It’s all about matte shades this winter, so stick with the gorgeous array of powder shades that will give your eyes oomph for the holidays and beyond. Grey hues with a hint of blue or turquoise will look lovely on many eye colors, as will the rich chocolate or deep berry shades that are showing up at all the makeup counters this season. Brunettes can enjoy a huge variety of deep, rich tones that will accentuate their eyes beautifully, and blondes can go for the matte blues, greens and yellows. Try those shades with silver or gold eyeliner for extra dazzle.

Shimmer continues to be a popular choice in eye shadow as well, and you can find a range of silver, grey and gold that will sparkle for those special evenings. When going glam with the shadow, keep your eyeliner in the more neutral black or brown tones. However, you can add drama by selecting a liquid liner instead of the more subtle pencil.

Lashes that get Noticed

In the colder months, your lashes need to come out of hiding with brown or black mascara applied in two or three coats. For additional impact, use an eyelash curler before applying mascara, and pay special attention to the lashes of the outer eye. To avoid clumping, you can comb through lashes while mascara is still wet and allow one coat to dry completely before applying the next. Make sure your lower lashes get the same kind of attention as the top lashes do.

Our eyes are one of the first things that people will notice about us. Make sure your peepers are telling the world that you are a style savvy woman who knows what this winter is all about.
