Eye Shape – What’s Yours & How to Use it

Eye Shape – What’s Yours & How to Use itOur eyes are one of our most distinguishing features. The windows to our soul. Take a look in the mirror to see your eye shape and read on to discover how to maximize your best look.

For each makeup application, we’ll us three terms: Highlight - the lightest color shade. Midtone - the next darkest shade. Accent - the darkest color.

Close-Set Eyes are less than one eye length apart and tend to have a sultry yet innocent look. To achieve your best look apply your highlight shade to the browbone, lids and inside corner nearest the nose. Line your midtone shade under your lower lashes just to the inside end of the lashline. Still using the midtone, sweep color from the outside crease of your eyelid (just above the outside corner) ¾ of the way across the crease of your lid. Stay under the browbone. Finish by lining the lower lashes with the accent shade. Sweep the accent shade across the upper lash line beginning at the outside corner and ending halfway across the lid.

Wide-Set Eyes are more than an eye width apart. For your most beautiful look apply the highlight shade along the browbone. Next bring the midtone across the crease from the outer corner in and along the inner lid to make eyes appear closer together. Beginning just inside the outer corner of the crease, sweep the accent shade along lashline, across the crease and up to just below the browline. Finish by lining the lower lashes. Do not extend color beyond the outside corner of lower lashes.

Deep-Set Eyes sit deeper in the sockets so the eye lid from the base of lashes to browbone is less visible. To look your best, begin with the highlight shade over the lid, along the brow line and in the lower corner along the lower lashline. Beginning in the outer corner of the crease, sweep the midtone up from the crease and along the browbone. Finish by applying the accent color to the outer corner of the lid along the lashline then up to the outer corner of the brow bone. Define the look by lining the lower lashline with the accent shade.

Hooded eyes are those where the crease is not visible. To make these eyes pop, begin by applying the highlighter to the upper lashine, the browbone and the inside corner of the lower lashes. Apply the midtone to the entire hooded area and across the lid. Finish with the accent shade along the lower lashline, the upper lashline and from the middle of the lid out to the outer corner. Well defined upper and lower lashlines help hooded eyes stand out.

Standard Eyes are a balance of all other eye sets. To accentuate these eyes, apply highlighter to the browbone. Cover the entire lid with the midtone. Finish by sweeping the accent shade along the crease from the outer corner to the end of the inside lashline.

Complete each look with mascara best suited to your eye color.
