Fabulous Freckles

Fabulous FrecklesLove them or hate them, freckles are a part of your complexion. Freckles can be light, dark, barely there or all over. Whether you want to show off your freckles or need a better way to conceal their appearance, dealing with freckles on a daily basis is as simple as knowing what makeup products to use and how to properly apply them - and you don’t have to be a makeup guru.

Pictures of cute, freckly-faced children are generally seen as adorable. But what about a freckly-faced teen or adult? Some people can successfully pull off a face full of freckles, while others wish they had none at all. There is no surefire way to completely get rid of freckles, although there are treatments available like prescription strength retinoids, chemical peels, dermabrasion, and skin bleaching. If these options are a little too extreme, don’t worry - all you need is a little makeup know-how.

Freckles aren’t limited to just redheads and people with fair skin, but these folks are the most likely to deal with troublesome freckles. If you want to make your freckles less noticeable, foundation is the main makeup item you’ll need. Darker freckles can be more difficult to conceal, so choose a cream or liquid foundation that works for your skin type. The right shade of foundation can cover up freckles or even out your complexion, allowing the color of your freckles to blend in better with the rest of your skin.

One trick to successfully applying foundation to mask your freckles is to mix foundation that is one shade lighter than your freckles with foundation that is one shade darker than your skin tone. You may need help from a makeup artist or salesperson at the makeup counter to choose the right shades for this process. When you’re ready to apply your special shade of foundation, makeup sponges are best. This lets you control how much color you add and helps with even coverage. Next, use a fluffy makeup brush to blend the color around your jaw line and hairline. Adding a highlighter draws attention to your eyes and cheekbones and away from your freckles. Once you’ve got complete coverage, top it off with translucent powder. This keeps the foundation in place and adds an extra layer of camouflage.

Love your freckles? Great! Show them off by either going au naturale or using makeup to enhance their appearance. When it comes to foundation, sheer coverage works best. Wearing sheer foundation allows you to be a makeup diva, but allows your freckles to show through slightly without completely hiding them from view. Tinted moisturizers also provide excellent sheer coverage that gives your face a little color and great coverage.
