From Business to Funky with the Same Color Palette

From Business to Funky with the Same Color PaletteThe real you lives equally in two worlds as a serious, not-to-be-taken-lightly business woman and a life-of-the-party girl who knows what to do with a hard earned bonus check. When your worlds meet at five o’clock you can transform your lovely looks from function to fun using the same color compact and a few items that shimmer. Here are a few tips to utilizing a color palette that serves your look no matter where you are or what you’re doing.

It’s All in the Eyes

Your eye makeup should be your boldest expression both in the boardroom and on the dance floor. A versatile compact has a trio of eye colors with a soft, bright highlight shade, a bold matte mid-tone and a fun, expressive shade with shimmer.

To apply for the office, begin with the highlight shade at the browbone and under lower lashes. Sweep the mid-tone shade along the crease and over lids. Darken either your crease or your lids according to your eye shape. Line your lower lashes from the outer corner to the mid-point with a combination of the two colors. Apply your liner and mascara as usual.

To touch-up for a night out, reapply your highlight color along the browbone and your mid-tone along the crease. Add your shimmer shade along lids and under your lower lashline. Reapply mascara to deepen your look. (Hint: a dry mascara brush will help separate lashes before reapplying) Don’t be afraid to use bold colors or to apply more than you would for a business meeting. Lights are dim at night and you want to be seen.

…And the Lips

Your lip color finishes your look and speaks volumes about your intentions. Your lip wear includes a liner, lipstick and gloss. Choose a liner that compliments your palest lip color so you don’t end up with etched lips. Your lip wear is versatile to suit your preference – choose either a matte lipstick and a gloss with a hint of shimmer or a neutral gloss and a frosted lipstick.

To apply for the office, line your lips and fill-in completely. Using the lip wear without the shimmer, cover the middle of your bottom lip and the plumpest parts of your top lip and blend.

To touch-up for a night out, blot lips to clean as much color form them as possible. Apply liner and fill-in. Use the lip wear with the shimmer to make your smile pop and the matte shade to make it bold.

Put it All Together

Choose your eye colors in complimentary shades from the same color family. Begin with your bold, shimmer color and build from there. Violets are hot shades and work on skin tones from pale to yellow to bronze. Blues are also funky and versatile and range from powder to indigo to suit most complexions.

Choose lip wear that compliments your eye color by continuing to stay in the same color and tone family – warm, cool, blues, pinks…

Try this modern take on a retro look: Eye colors in pale sand, espresso and shimmering ocean blue. Lip colors in pale pink (liner and gloss) and a frosted rose lipstick.

Or: Eye colors in soft pink, gold and shimmering violet. Lip colors in plum (liner), black cherry (matte lipstick) and natural (shimmering gloss).
