Early glam rock looks were closer to Halloween face painting than fashionable makeup application. Today glam rock is “darkly romantic” according to stylists who participated in making the models look amazing backstage at the fashion shows. It is truly an artistic expression that compliments a particular look that the designer is aiming for.
To create a sexy, edgy glam rock look begin by dusting a liberal amount of bronzer from the eye brows to the lash line. Cover the lids completely. The bronzer creates the perfect base of shimmer and red-brown color. Using the tip of your finger or a damp brush, gently line and then smudge a line of burgundy metallic cream shadow around the outer corner of your eyes. Wrap the color under your lower lashes and smudge to blend. To help lift the corners and create a wide-open look, smudge the same color with your finger from the outer corner up toward the brown bone. Dust a shimmery brown shadow over the lids to finish. The key is to use shadows that all have a slight shimmer so that together they create a light-reflecting shine. Forgo the mascara and allow the color to speak for itself.
Glam rock is all about the details, the artistic expressions that make it stand out as nothing short of rock and roll. Nina Ricci chose a metallic gold line that began at the top of the model’s foreheads and extended down, over the eye to the tops of the cheek. To recreate her glam statement use a damp brush dipped in cream eye shadow. Make the line thicker from the forehead to the bottom lashes. Create a teardrop effect from the bottom lashes down to the cheek.
To complete the look smudge rose lipstick over your lips and finish with a clear balm to create a soft, wet effect, not a gloss.
Hair should look like you’ve been out on the dance floor. Use an extra large barreled iron to curl sections all over your head, brush or finger through the curls to create loose waves. To help hold hair in place, tie the ends in front of your shoulders where the curl naturally turns up. Tease the tie and spray with holding spray.
