Holiday Makeup and How to Wear it

Holiday Makeup and How to Wear itLooking beautiful for the holidays is a must, but often times we’re not sure what makeup to wear for that special time of the year or what’s even in season. Our quick holiday guide will help you find the perfect holiday makeup that will allow you to shine.

If you’re interested in trying the latest holiday trends, smoky-shimmering eyes and pale lips are a hit as well as pale eyes paired with deep luscious red lips. Shimmer is always a holiday favorite and still is. As a general rule, you should never wear dramatic eyes and lips both at the same time otherwise you’ll look over-dramatic. Choose to play up either the eyes or the lips and keep the rest simple.

If you’d like before you begin applying your holiday makeup you can prep your face with primer. Primer is a base that is applied under your makeup to assure longer lasting makeup and smooth coverage. Then apply your foundation as you normally would to even out skin tone and cover any blemishes you may have. For a festive holiday glow try brushing a bronzing powder over your foundation and bringing it down past your jaw line to your neck. You could also skip the foundation and just go with a tinted moisturizer.

For smoky-shimmering eyes, line your upper and lower lid lines using dark brown or black eyeliner. Next go over your upper and lower lash lines with a dark shadow using an eyeliner brush. For an even more dramatic look go over your upper lash line with liquid eyeliner. Next apply a shimmering shadow beginning at the base of your lash line and work your way up to just past the crease in your eyelid blending carefully to avoid visible lines. Follow up with a coat of brown or black mascara to your upper and lower lashes.

For pale eyes, begin by lining your upper and lower lids with brown eyeliner. Next apply a very pale shadow that compliments your skin tone, for example ivory or beige. Finish up with a coat of brown mascara to your upper and lower lashes.

For pale colored lips, lip-glosses or tints are a simple way to go and perfect for dramatic eyes. They can also be applied over a dramatic lipstick for a more dazzling look. To apply, dab gloss or tint over bare lips.

For deep luscious red lips begin by applying foundation over bare lips to allow for longer lasting coverage. Next line lips with a lip liner that is close to your choice of red lipstick by following the shape of your lips. For even more lasting coverage, fill your lips in with the same lip liner. Finally fill your lips in the your choice of red lipstick. For a more dramatic look apply a dab of clear gloss on the center of your upper and bottom lip and gently press your lips together.

For cheeks try a pale shimmering blush. Sweep color onto the apples of cheeks blending out towards your hairline. For pale skin tones choose a pink shade and for warmer skin tones try a peach shade.

This years for brows most makeup experts are recommending a more natural brow look instead of the overdone arch. To enhance the natural shape of your brows begin by using a dark pencil or brow powder to fill in your brows and then finish by setting brows with a brow gel. If you’d like to make your brows pop, brush a small amount of white shadow under brows using a large eye shadow brush.

Many of us might not consider our nails as part of our holiday makeup, but they deserve a festive touch as well and our look is certainly not complete without them. To show you’re your hands and feet prior to the holidays, use a scrub meant specifically for hands or feet and apply daily. Before bed, apply a generous amount of moisturizer to feet and slip on a pair of socks. You can do this with hands as well by simply slipping on a pair of gloves after moisturizing. Finally the day before the party, apply a polish color of your choice or go simple with a manicure or pedicure.

Remember great holiday makeup will take practice, but with a little patience the results will be simply stunning.
