One of the first steps is to invest in makeup that is suited for warm weather. Liquid and cream formulas are notorious for being prone to melting and wiping off easily, which means making the switch to powder formulas. Not only are powder formulas made for warm weather, it sits better on the complexion, providing lasting results. There are foundations, blush, bronzer and even eye shadow colors available in powder form at any department store’s makeup counter or local drugstore. Because powders are lightweight, they don’t feel heavy on the face and are easily absorbed so even if you do sweat, the end results won’t be a streaky mess like it would be with liquid or cream formulas.
By eliminating traditional liquid or cream foundation and replacing it with powder, this also contributes to another important factor that deals with sweat-proofing your makeup, which is taking away excess layers. Many women make it a habit to add layer upon layer of foundation, concealer, blush and powder. Although this makes for a somewhat flawless appearance in the end, when heat and humidity enter the picture, the first thing your complexion is going to do is sweat underneath all the makeup. Powder takes away the layering effect and allows the skin to breathe much easier. For skin types that don’t do well with powder formulas in general, you can still use this makeup trick by first applying a mattifying gel before applying the powder. Doing this locks in the powder and helps the color stay put while providing moisture.
The next step to sweat-proofing your makeup is to stick to pencil liners instead of liquid. The pencil versions have staying power, mainly because the wax it contains is designed to stay put on the skin, even if it becomes damp from sweat, unlike liquid liner, which has a tendency to slip off at the first sign of perspiration. Mascara is another common victim of warm weather and sweat. Even though there are waterproof mascara products readily available for purchase, these formulas are actually harmful to the lashes. To avoid dry and brittle lashes from waterproof formulas, opt for the latest mascara products that offer what is known as “tube technology.” Formulated to be sweat-proof, tube technology mascara has the ability to coat each lash in microfibers that enhance their appearance. Another advantage tube technology mascara has over waterproof mascara is the fact that it can easily be removed by gently rubbing it under warm water.
