The first benefit of blue foundations and concealers is one that we’ve all known about for a long time and accepted in the small concealer sticks that no one we know really owns – blue conceals redness. So when blue foundation in pressed powder and cream form came out, the first thought for most of us was not how well it would cover redness, but would we all be walking around looking like a Smurf? After all, we buy foundation with a tint that matches our skin tone. Foundation and concealer color our skin, why would blue be any different?
The second advantage that blue foundation offers is that it reflects light and adds brightness to your skin. This comes from two of the main pigments, titanium mica and ultramarine.
So with fear and trepidation (and nowhere to go after) the blue foundation and concealer was applied. The results were surprisingly good. I had a few red splotches on my chin and they were quickly evened out without leaving a chalky finish. The rest of my face was flawless. The glow was something akin to the bright skin you see when lights are put in just the right place for a photo shoot. We didn’t look at all like a Smurf. Amazingly the finish was not at all tinted blue. I don’t know how they do it, but the finish was incredible.
Once you’ve got a flawless base, it’s time to add color. Blue eye shadow isn’t something to be feared or worn just for those crazy girls’ nights. There are so many shades of blue, you’ll be able to find once that is refined enough for church or wild enough for Vegas.
If you have fair skin and light hair a transparent green-blue eye shadow looks great on you. Fair-skin brunettes should use a shimmery blue-purple. The combination of blue eye shadow colors will not make the skin tone look washed out, and will actually enhance the eye color.
If you have olive skin a navy or icy silver-blue eye shadow will look amazing with your darker skin tone. Avoid blue eye shadow shades that contain those secondary hues like green and purple.
For brown skin bright blue eye shadow shades like aqua work best for you, as the contrasting shades of light and dark compliment each other.
Blue lipstick was once actually blue, which was cool is the ‘80’s. Today it works much like the foundation to even the tone of your lips and add reflectors that enhance gloss and add an appearance of fullness.
