Tips for Keeping Your Make Up Fresh at Work

Tips for keeping makeup freshDo you feel like a mess by the middle of the day? Many people, especially those with oily skin, feel that by mid-afternoon their make-up has faded, smeared or worn off. Your eye liner or shadow has disappeared and traces of it are clumped in the folds of your upper lid. You might even have eye liner smudges below your eyes. That perfect pink blush in your cheeks has been gone since mid morning. And any lipstick you might have applied has become your identifying marker on a coffee cup.

Of course, the ideal situation would be to go home, wash your face, and then reapply your make-up. Or another possibility is to bring all of your cosmetics to work with you each day. The boss would hardly appreciate you spending some twenty minutes reapplying your cosmetics in the ladies room. Since both of those options are an impossibility, there are some tips you can follow to keep your face looking almost as fresh as when you walked out your door in the morning.

Examine what cosmetics you wear each day to work. Keeping in mind that your daytime look will be different from your evening look, you should decide if you need to make any changes. Once you have made that determination, think about how you apply your make-up.

1. Start your day with your usual cleansing ritual. When you apply your make-up, go light. Less is more especially where foundation is concerned. You’ll look more natural, and your touch-up will be easier.

2. Invest in some blotting tissues. These handy little papers can remove the oil from your face and make it possible to reapply some of your make-up. If you don’t have any of these papers, you can also use a tissue or perm endpapers from a beauty supply house.

3. Remove your lipstick. You’ll be reapplying it as your final step.

4. Take a brush or sponge to smooth out any remaining foundation. You might need to apply a light coat if some areas need it.

5. Reapply your blush keeping it light. It’s a dead giveaway if you reappear sporting two brightly colored cheeks.

6. Lightly remove any smudges from around your eyes. Touch up your eyeliner if need be; however, don’t reapply your mascara. This can cause your lashes to have that “clumpy” or “caked” look.

7. Your last step will be to reapply your lipstick.

The whole process should only take a few minutes. With minimal supplies from home you can freshen up and look as if the day had just started. Not only will you look good but you’ll feel better, too!
