Be the Jewel of the Party with the Latest Jewel Tones in Eye Makeup

Be the Jewel of the Party with the Latest Jewel Tones in Eye MakeupJewel tones became the hot look for the eyes last fall, and they continue to be the rage throughout the winter months. One of the big attractions of these deep amethyst, sapphire and emerald hues is the fact that they make a beautifully dramatic smoky eye effect. And while many of the jewel tones are tailor-made for the cool complexions of the fairer women, warmer tones can also benefit from the emerald greens and copper shades. The general rule is that cooler tones should opt for the silver shimmer and blues and violets, while warm complexions can go for the gold, green and topaz. Jewel tones can be worn matte for a daytime look, or dressed up with some sparkle for evening.

A Review of the Smoky Eye

Since the jewel tones in eye shadows lend themselves perfectly to the smoky eye effect, let`s have a quick review of how to create this look. The first step is to apply an eye shadow base or primer that will help you keep your smoky eyes all day or night. Begin with eyeliner across the upper lid, making the line a bit thicker in the middle. While you can stick with basic black, shades like deep blue or violet work especially well with the jewel tones of shadows. You can go with either a liquid liner or a kohl pencil for easier blending. Next, line the lower lid with a slightly lighter shade than the top of green, violet or sapphire. This line needs to be blended or smudged well for a softer look.

The next step is to apply a light shade of shadow in a grey, pale blue, green or lavender. Follow up with an application of a darker shade in deep blue, emerald green or rich violet applied in the crease. You can then apply this color along the upper lashes, blending the shadow into the liner. With a brush, blend the color up from the lashes and toward your crease. The more you use, the more dramatic the effect.   Finish up with multiple coats of volumizing mascara in black.

The Rest of the Look

Once you have your gorgeous smoky eyes looking just so, it`s time to make up the rest of your face. Apply a light, natural shade for the cheeks that will give you a kiss of color and a healthy glow. A nude lipstick palette will give your lips a pretty finish without competing with your dramatic eyes. If you are going for the evening look, a bit of gloss in the center of your lower lip will give you a sexy pout without overemphasizing this feature. You are now ready to meet your day or night as the jewel that you are. Feel free to shine.
