It’s pretty easy to say that there are numerous types of makeup looks out there. But what may not be as obvious is the fact that there is actually a time and a place for certain makeup looks. You may have heard of the terms “day makeup” and “evening makeup” but probably don’t know what the difference is. One common mistake many women make is confusing the two types of makeup looks. Some women believe that evening makeup is just a matter of piling on more makeup on top of the makeup they are wearing during the day. This couldn’t be more wrong, not to mention bad for your skin.
The deal with day and evening makeup has to do with lighting and how certain makeup colors can make your complexion appear. It goes without saying that most makeup worn during the day is lighter in color and amount. Most women tend to stick with a more natural makeup look for the office, school, or for running errands. However, when evening comes around, wearing day makeup can make your face washed out or even disappear. The lighting during the evening is much dimmer, making day makeup non existent. Because of this, a different makeup palette of color is needed. Some women like more dramatic makeup such as the smoky eye look, while others simply choose slightly darker shades of eye color and a darker lip color.
You also have to take into consideration where you plan on being during the evening. Obviously, you wouldn’t wear the same makeup look from the office to a nightclub in the evening and vice-versa. Your evening makeup should match the tone and setting of where you are. Because the nighttime scene is darker and more mysterious, you can find a makeup look that matches it. Nightclubs in particular tend to be dark so you can use evening makeup to make your face stand out among the crowd. Of course you don’t want to be too dramatic—no one wants to look like a Raggedy Anne doll.
With practice you’ll be able to find just the right day and evening makeup looks that work with your skin tone. Be sure to choose colors that complement each other and suit the location you plan on being at. If you need some assistance, you’ll want to seek the expertise of a professional makeup artist, who can help you find the right day and evening makeup colors as well as application techniques.
