Use a Soothing Eye Gel
Puffy eyes are the biggest giveaway that you’re feeling under the weather. Use a soothing eye gel to reduce the swelling. Look for products that contain botanicals and anti-inflammatory ingredients for a cool refreshing feeling and immediately tighter skin. Witch hazel is an important ingredient to look for – it’s an astringent and will help tighten up that puffy skin and help retain moisture.
Tip: Don’t overlook products designed for men. Some of them have the ingredients you’re looking for.
Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize
When you get sick, it’s easy to forget to moisturize. Add that to the fact that most cold medicines include antihistamines that will dry out your skin, and there’s a recipe for disaster. Use a good moisturizer fortified with vitamins C and E. You may also want to look for a moisturizer with a tint to add a hint of color.
Concealer is your Friend
A few dabs of concealer on those dark circles can help transform those tired eyes. Start near the bridge of your nose and blend outward. If your nose is red from blowing, apply a little concealer around the base of your nose.
Tip: Concealer with a green tint can help disguise redness.
Discreet Foundation
It’s going to be tempting to try to fix everything with foundation. Resist the urge. Choose an illuminating shade to give your sunken complexion a glowing boost and use it subtly.
Tip: To give your foundation a boost, try applying a self-tanning solution to give your skin some healthy color. Today’s artificial tanning compounds have come a long way and can give your skin some natural-looking color without layering it with more cosmetics.
Brighten with Blush
Your blush can brighten your skin tone and the contrast will give your eyes some sparkle. Look for products with subtle sheen and natural colors. Save your bolder shades for days when your natural color is more vibrant.
Spend Some Time on your Eyebrows
Your eyebrows might not be your first thought for perking up your look, but if you take some time to shape them and fill them in with a little powder, you can frame your eyes nicely and reduce the amount of other makeup you’ll need to wear.
Your Eyes: Less is More
For your shadow, use a light champagne-like color on your upper lids up to the crease. So far as your mascara goes, apply it generously to your upper lashes only and avoid using eyeliner – no need to draw attention to the darkness under your eyes.
Light Lips
Use a light colored lip gloss to dress your lips without contrasting too harshly with your skin tone. A balanced healthy glow is what you’re after.
With these tips and five minutes in front of the mirror, you can give your face a healthy boost – even if the rest of your body feels like it’s been left behind. Remember, when you look good, you feel better. So take a deep breath, smile wide and face your day.
