Make Gold Your Hottest Shade

Make Gold Your Hottest ShadeIt used to be that gold makeup would show up for a season or through the holidays and then disappear for a few years. These days, gold makeup has become a mainstay for many cosmetic companies from high-end boutique lines to well-know drug store brands. It’s an updated softness and a refined shimmer that’s given gold its recent staying power. Long gone are the days of big flakes of golden glitter. Here to stay is a soft glow that is uniquely golden.

One great quality that gold makeup possesses is that it can look beautiful with any skin tone and any hair color. Blondes, raven black, brunettes and especially redheads can all use shades of gold that will play up their highlights, even the slightest ones. Also any eye color is enhanced by golden tones. It’s a miracle color that really does look good on anyone as long as you know how to apply it and don’t go overboard. The key is to begin with as flawless a face as possible. Spend some time perfecting your foundation and be sure to have blotting papers on hand.

For a sizzling nighttime look start with liquid gold eyeliner. Be careful to apply the liner along the outside edges of your eyes and just under the rim of your lashes. Most liquid liners in gold will have shimmer that could irritate your eyes. Frame you entire eye with the liner and extend it in two wings, one from the bottom lashes and one from the top, from the outer corners. Use a thin line of liquid black liner along the top lash and finish with glossy black mascara. Dust bright gold shadow along your brow bone and cheek bone with a powder brush to frame your entire eye.

If you apply gold makeup lightly and tastefully, you can wear it on eyes, cheeks and lips at the same time. Remember to think outside the gold box and look for gold colors that have silver, pink, rose or brown undertones that will compliment your skin. Also consider using gold creams instead of all powders. While creams blend very well and can be much more subtle and dewy, they can also settle into fine lines. Apply a tinted moisturizer first. If you have oily skin, sweep gold powder over your eyes and allow your skin to catch the shimmer form there rather than making your whole face look like a shimmering slick halfway through the evening. Cream eye shadows are also great but they tend to slide. Be sure to dust with translucent powder.

Lips will make a very sensuous statement in the right shade of gold. Think barely there when applying gold lipstick or gloss and choose colors that are in the nude family with golden sheen mixed throughout. This will give you the sexy shimmer you want without the ‘80’s rock band frost. Always start by applying a dab of additional foundation around the edges of your lips because gold lipstick looks terrible if it bleeds and the shimmer is difficult to blot off.

Fair skin should stick to golds that have a silvery undertone. Medium skin looks best in golds tinged in beige or bronze. Dark and olive skin rocks berry and copper infused golds.
