How to Lighten Up your Makeup Routine for Summer

How to Lighten Up your Makeup Routine for SummerSummer may be a time to play in the sun, but it is also the season when the sweat starts to glisten. When you begin to feel the temperature rising, your makeup can easily be the first casualty of your style if you haven’t prepared your cosmetic routine for the warm days to come. Keep your look beautiful and cool by lightening up on your makeup routine with products that are designed to take the heat.

What to Leave Behind

The first product that needs a summer redo is your moisturizer. It is a fact that many of us will see oil production rise in the summertime, at least when it comes to our complexion. The moisturizer that kept your skin soft and supple during the dry winter months may simply be too heavy for warmer weather. Opt for an oil-free moisturizer, and preferably one with an SPF of at least 15 to keep the effects of the sun’s rays off of your skin. You can even go a step further and select a tinted moisturizer that will act as your foundation, sun protection and moisturizer all in one handy product. Fewer layers will make your summer skin much happier. If you simply can’t go without a foundation, switch to a mineral-based product that will be lighter for your skin.

Let your Eyes Say Goodbye

Eye makeup that gave you so much drama and definition all winter will begin to smudge and run when temperatures rise. It is best to say goodbye to liquid liners that will be the first to run on a hot day. In fact, most eyeliners are better left in your cosmetics drawer until we bid farewell to summer for another year. If you simply must have some eye definition, line your eyes with a bit of your shadow that can be applied with an eyeliner brush. You can also switch your regular mascara out and go with a waterproof variety that will last longer and stand up to heat, humidity and a sweaty brow. Shadows are prettiest in the summer when they lean to the lighter and more neutral shades of the season as well.

Lips that Take the Heat

Another product that is best tucked away for cooler weather is your heavy matte lipsticks that will melt in the heat. Heavy glosses are also tough to use in summer since warm weather can make them gooey and sticky. You also want to make sure that your tender lips are getting all of the sun protection that they need. So what is the best choice for your kisser? A tinted lip balm that comes complete with an SPF is the perfect solution. If you don’t want to give up your shine completely, try dabbing a bit of gloss onto the center of your bottom lip. Your mouth will sport a sexy pout, and healthy summer lips to boot.

Summer is the perfect time to update your makeup routine with products that will take the heat and look great all day and night. Lighten up and let your face enjoy that summer weather!
