Makeup Tips for All Seasons

Makeup Tips for All SeasonsWe all have our favorite makeup looks and colors that we use but it may not always suit the season. If you’ve been paying attention to your complexion as the seasons change, you may notice that your typical makeup looks don’t quite appear as good as it used to. This may be due to the fact that you aren’t updating your makeup palette according to the time of year.

It doesn’t matter if you’re naturally tan, porcelain pale or are a fan of using self-tanners - our skin tone subtly changes throughout the year and this can have an effect on the makeup we use on a daily basis. The most important makeup item to update throughout the year is foundation. Because our skin tone changes slightly from month to month, using the same shade of foundation is not going to do your makeup justice. Using a shade that is too light on a complexion that has gotten slightly darker will create an ashen appearance. Darker foundation on pale skin can look completely mismatched compared to the skin tone of the rest of the body.

In order to keep your foundation up to date, it helps to have two shades of foundation handy: one for the winter months and one for the warmer months. During the fall and winter months, our skin tends to lighten and get slightly paler due to the lack of sunlight and warm temperatures. Even darker skin can start to gradually appear lighter. In the fall skin tones tend to be darker than during the winter months so be sure to find a foundation shade that will accurately match your complexion from fall into winter. While many people like to stick to lighter, frosted shades during winter, don’t be afraid to be dramatic with darker shades. Darker lip color shades such as burgundy, and plum can look great on a winter complexion as well as smokey eyes and shades of grays and purples.

Don’t let spring fool you into using a foundation shade made for the summer. During this time of the year, the skin can still appear slightly pale from the winter months and can take some time to get back to its warmer tone. In this case, you’ll want to find a shade of foundation that matches but still allows for a warmer appearance. In addition to your foundation, using blush that gives off a naturally flushed appearance, as well as pink or glossy lip colors are ideal for the spring months. When it comes to eye makeup, you’ll want to continue the warm color trend so try a number of different eye shadow colors that are light and fresh. Brown mascara is great for finishing off a warm complexion as opposed to overly dramatic black mascara.

Once the weather starts to really warm up, your complexion will be ready for its summer shade. You’ll want to continue the warm and sun-kissed look with your makeup palette during this season. However, for those who suffer from acne prone complexions, you can turn to a lighter foundation to conceal redness or breakouts. During the summer months you can stick to the all natural look with fun colors of eye shadows, pink and peach shades of lipstick or regular gloss, as well as a light coat of mascara and little to no eye liner, depending on how dramatic you want your look to be.
