Makeup for Runners

Makeup for RunnersThe idea of wearing make-up while running has always been controversial. Women of the pro-makeup camp claim that since they look better while wearing makeup, they feel better, and therefore perform better. Anti-makeup proponents argue that wearing makeup can clog the pores and cause breakouts.

With the advent of waterproof, sweat proof and smudge-proof makeup, no woman should ever have to worry about post-workout makeup disasters. Here are some helpful hints:

Saving Face

Modern technology has also created makeup products that will not clog your pores. In fact, some of these products contain ingredients that are actually good for your skin.   For example, many waterproof foundations contain sunscreen, which is an indisputable requirement for any woman who enjoys exercising in the outdoors. Choose colors that compliment your skin tone, and avoid layering foundations with bronzers and highlighters.   You can apply powder after you apply your foundation, but use a light touch to avoid the "pancake look." Also, too much powder can cause your face to perspire excessively. The same applies to blush. Running will add a natural bit of color to your cheeks, so you need not go overboard when applying blush. For the same reason, avoid wearing too much glitter. It looks a bit silly in the sunlight.

The Eyes Have It

Many runners are concerned about the "raccoon look" that is the result of mascara that decides that it would also enjoy a "running workout." Unfortunately, when your mascara uses your cheeks as a running track, the results are not too attractive. Fortunately, there are a multitude of waterproof, smudge proof and sweat proof mascaras and eye shadows on the market. However, use a light touch when applying these products. Some runners prefer to apply mascara on their upper lashes, but avoid the lower lashes. If you wear contact lenses when you run, be sure to choose only hypoallergenic eye shadow and mascara products. Keep in mind that in most cases, you will be seen in the bright daylight, so avoid "overly dramatic " colors when choosing an eye shadow. Although in the evening, you might choose colors that compliment your wardrobe, for outdoor exercise, choose eye makeup shades that are similar to your own eye color.

Lovely Lips

Although there are many waterproof lipsticks on the market, they are not recommended for runners. Most of them cause dry lips. Your best bet is to use a moisturizing lip-gloss in a clear or natural shade.

Take it Off: Take it All Off

With the wrong ingredients, removing waterproof makeup can easily turn into a science project. A cyclomethicone-based oil-free, non-stinging make-up remover is recommended. Products that contain chamomile are also helpful in removing waterproof foundation, mascara and eye shadow.
