Mineral Makeup That Feeds Your Skin

Mineral Makeup That Feeds Your SkinMineral makeup may be the cosmetic answer to prayer for women with sensitive or maturing skin. Mineral makeup is made from naturally occurring crushed minerals like zinc oxide, titanium dioxide and mica. Once crushed, the loose minerals are combined to make mineral powder makeup such as foundations, finishing powders, concealers, blushers, bronzers and eye shadows that feed your skin essential nutrients like copper and zinc. These essential nutrients promote healthier skin and advance cell renewal – great news for faces over fifty and for those who fight against skin damage from allergies and cosmetic sensitivities.

Mineral makeup contains no age-enhancing talc, a known carcinogen found in a lot of traditional makeup, making it a perfect choice for skin of every age, but especially for mature skin. As we age, our skin loses some of its natural, youthful glow because peripheral circulation is reduced and cell turnover has slowed. Mineral cosmetics feed the skin and smooth out the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, due to its light-reflecting qualities. There are also no petrochemicals or coal-derived ingredients, commonly found in traditional makeup.

Another benefit of mineral makeup comes for those with sensitive skin. Most mineral makeup is free of irritants like perfumes, preservatives (such as parabens), alcohols and dyes. It is the dyes, particularly FD&C dyes that have been identified as the one of the leading causes of allergic reactions in makeup. Most mineral makeup lines use only the colors that occur naturally in the crushed iron oxide pigments. The purity in mineral makeup makes it gentle enough to be used after surgical procedures like laser peels, when skin is at its most sensitive. Be sure to check the label on your mineral make for bismuth oxychloride, a mineral that is sometimes used in mineral makeup as a cheap filler that creates a shimmery look to your skin. Bismuth oxychloride is heavy, so if you need to buff or force your mineral makeup into your skin, chances are it’s in there. Mineral makeup that does not contain bismuth oxychloride tends to be very light and easier to apply.

Acne sufferers also find mineral makeup a good choice because it is by nature non-comedogenic, oil-free, anti-inflammatory and cannot support bacteria growth. This means that acne blemishes can be covered or concealed without further aggravation. While mineral makeup has not been proven to cure acne, skin has a much better chance of healing while wearing it. A few mineral makeup lines have released mineral night-time treatments specially formulated to improve your skin while you sleep.

The minerals titanium dioxide and zinc oxide found in mineral makeup also act as a natural sun block and effectively filter both UVA and UVB rays for sun protection of up to SPF 20.
