One aspect of these new colors is the texture they add to your face. Vanilla used to be just a highlighting shade that was dismissed after it was put on. Now vanilla shades are infused with shimmer and used alone to create a neutral color on your eyes that diverts attention to your lips so they really pop when combined with a rich cranberry lipstick topped with a carnation gloss.
While you’re focused on your lips, try-on a deep gloss in a shade of caramel. These colors have been updated from boring to fabulous by adding red undertones that make lips sumptuous without washing out your face like the caramels of old. To help add color to your skin, pair caramels with an intense pink blush swept just under your cheek bones.
Another shade of the season that makes a dramatic statement on your cheeks is brick red. This is a color not to be taken lightly. If it’s not applied and paired with the proper care, you’ll end up looking like you’re a circus performer. Brick red takes blush from a supporting role to the most dramatic position on your face. Placement is key. Stay away from the apples of your cheeks; instead sweep a smooth line along the lower line of your cheek bone and use a brush or cotton ball to soften the edges. Pair brick red blush with a light caramel lip gloss and vanilla eye shadow.
To play up your eyes, think of the colors of fallen leaves, bare branched trees and smoldering skies after a storm. For real depth and a gorgeous look that makes your eyes blaze, choose rich moss, gold, deep brown and copper. Be sure they have texture by opting for shadows that add shimmer and don’t look “weak” or “thin” in the compact.
To take eyes to a new level of sexy, try on shimmering charcoals in shades that carry green undertones. These colors of a stormy sky, laced with shimmer soften the harshness of black liner and mascara without diminishing the impact. Paired with light caramel lips and the palest shade of brick cheeks, your eyes will summon the powers of the skies.
Once shunned by makeup artists, mauve shadows are back with a new deepness and tone that makes you forget the tacky frosts of high school mauves. These shades are deeper than traditional pinks because of the brown undertones. They are sheer with just a trace of shimmer to add intensity. Use the same subtle shade of mauve on your eyes and lips for a completely bright and stunning look.
